Any Great PC only Games by Japanese Developers?

I'm looking for great PC only games made by Japanese developers. As long as they can be played by the english speaking world, I'm game. I'm not looking for any particular genre and the game can be a classic or modern game. It just seems Japanese gaming companies have pretty much ignored the PC as a viable platform in the U.S. I can't think of one Japanese gaming company who's focus platform is mainly the PC, like Blizzard and Valve for example.

The reason I ask is because Japanese PC game development seems to always have been pretty scarce here in the U.S. Whenever I think PC games development I think the western world. I just would like to see if theres anything worth playing on the PC by eastern developers. I'm a big shmup fan so I already know about all the Japanese PC shmups out there. Any suggestions guys or at least a point in the right direction?

That's a very good question. It seems like Japan is only known for touhou shmups and hentai eroge games on the pc. I've never played an eroge game, but I read about them sometimes. Videogame journalist Leigh Alexander has written some interesting things about games like Kana Little Sister:

I've debated playing that game against my better judgement because of her review of it.

With the PC being such a open platform, you'd figure there would be a massive underground Japanese PC gaming development community. Its sad to see Japanese developers limit themselves to just touhou and hentai games. Theres gotta be more than this, I was really hoping for more. And JT, thats a screwed up game man.

As mentioned, there is the Touhou series. Japan actually did have a lot of PC development during the 80's, when the PCs were akin to the C64. But it seems they didn't really jump on the Windows development for games; probably because of how prevelant the consoles were in Japan.

Go look for titles on the PC-88, MSX, and MSX 2. Games like Thexder and [urlhttp://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/nihon-falcom-corp/]Falcom's[/url] early output were PC/MSX before they got ported elsewhere and jumped to consoles.
