Best game gear games?

Post by Kebo »

So I was rummaging about and found my old Game Gear. But I no longer have any games for it. I used to have a blast with this thing, despite the fact it was sucking batteries down like no tomorrow. The brightness and color were just undeniably cool. Kids that didn't grow up with that change won't ever understand.

I was wondering what the best exclusive, or designed specifically for Game Gear games there are? Not ports, not inferior versions of other games, but the best games designed for the system at the time. Exclusives in particular.

the games I remember playing the most are Mortal Kombat II, a certain Shinobi game, and a ton of Master Systems games.

Boom!

Both Shinobi 1 & 2 on GameGear are fantastic, and also vary from the Genesis formula, in that they have a bit of MegaMan-like power-ups, gained from each boss/level. These two games alone are the reason I still have my GameGear.

Also, the GG port of Ristar is pretty great too.

Streets of Rage is worth looking for and Chuck Rock is pretty good if you cope without backgrounds. I like collecting stuff for my GG, games are cheap and its not too hard to find stuff complete

Ruling out ports doesn't leave much for the GG, as a large number of its titles are ports of Master System games, since they had basically the same hardware, and Genesis games, since it was the main hardware at the time. As for exclusives, there was a Shining Force game for the system, and if you're thinking about getting a flashcard, a translation patch was just released for the Lunar Game Gear game.

In addition, Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 are good. Tails Adventure is too. Ariel Assault is a nice little shooter with some of the best graphics on the system. Ecco the Dolphin, Desert Strike and Fantasy Zone are fun and play well. Tom & Jerry The Movie is okay if you want a really easy little game you can beat inside an hour and a half, it also has great graphics. Marble Madness is fun but tough.

My brother had one and I played a lot of Ninja Gaiden, Columns, and Streets of Rage. I wanted to like Sonic, but I had a hard time with the small screen.
