A question regarding PAL saturns...

Post by braisedbatjuice »

First of all, hello everyone! I just signed up here and it seems like a pretty cool place to for be.

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the sega section or here, but I figured because it is a purely technical question, that I would seek assistance here.

I own a PAL saturn, which I have had for a few years now. It is not modified to play either japanese or american games, but I am lucky enough to own a few rare import titles. Unsurprisingly, I am looking to convert my machine so it can play both japanese and american games. I looked at the section which explains how to change the 'jumpers' so that the saturn will play japanese games. If I do this on my PAL saturn will this allow me to play both american and japanese games, or is it not that simple? I'm not exactly the most technical guy in the world, so maybe common sense is evading me!

Also, is it worth exploring the idea of mod chipping my saturn so that I can play copied games? I have a few rare games in 'win rar' format but again I am completely clueless about how to burn them correctly to CD.

I have tried to ask questions which I cannot find the answers to here, but if there is an FAQ which answers them for me already then feel free to direct me there.

thanks in advance. :)

your PAL saturn, if you rejumper the settings to USA/JAP. you will be able to play only to the setting you set it to and no longer be able to play anything else. lets say you set it to USA. this means you cannot play your PAL games or any JAP games. to play them, you need to set it back to JAP or PAL to play those other region games. you cannot play both at the same time. a way around this is to install a 2-3 way switch. so you can freely switch between any of the 2-3 modes(PAL,JAP,USA). as for chipping it, i would. this way you can just change the region on your games to PAL and no need to switch the regions around. :)

thanks, thats very helpful... just a couple of other questions. where can i obtain this 2-3 way switch and how easy is it to install? also, i thought the mod chip only allowed you to play copied games and not import titles?
