What's the name of the game?

Post by Sjusovaren »

Hey guys, I have something that I've been wondering about for quite some time and I was hoping that someone here can help me out. :)

A decade ago, my aunt & uncle let me borrow their NES along with a bunch of awesome games like Metroid, Journey to Silius and Excitebike. Along with them was a game that I vaguely remember but can't think of the name for the life of me. The cartridge was painted gold, the cover (I think) depicted a knight fighting dragons and stuff like that and there was a castle in the background with a trail leading up to it. I think it was a platform game and one of the levels (possibly something like the fourth or fifth) was in some kind of forest.

I know that this is pretty vague but I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me remember the name, it's driving me crazy not being able to think of it.

Thanks in advance! :)

Any clues on how the game played would help. Like what kind of enemies and what kind of attacks you have.

Its not a platformer but the your cart description sounds like it may be King's Knight.

I dont think so. But the King's Knight cart has a gold Label so thats one of the reasons I thought it may be the game.

Since you seem to so vividly remember the cartridge more than the game itself, maybe you should dig through lists on websites like the Cover Project?
It could be Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Pool of Radiance, Castle of Dragon, Demon Sword, Faria: A World of Mystery and Danger!, Hydlide...

Here's the cover for King's Knight.

Or go through the Wikipedia List since it's a lot more expansive.

Knight fighting a dragon with a castle in the background is a very popular theme...

Yes, there were gold cartridges other than the Zeldas and the gold NWC carts. Camerica released a bunch of their games in gold cartridges. These had a switch in the back to that they could be played on NTSC or PAL NES units.

There is a list of their games on the Camerica wikipedia page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camerica

I don't think any of their games meet the OP's description, though.

It wasn't by Camerica, and I don't think it was a gold cartridge, but the label art described sounds like it could be "Castle of Dragon". It is, I believe, a platformer.

Thanks for all the help guys but none of the covers posted ring a bell sadly... Maybe because the PAL versions (I'm from Sweden) had different covers?

I'm trying to think of alternative looks.... Maybe just the cover was gold (though I have a feeling that the cartridge was gold because it stood out so much compared to the other cartridges that were grey), maybe there wasn't a dragon but more an army of goblins or the like... I think that the illustration was very colourful, the castle was on a hill and that the trail leading up to it was yellow. I wish I could ask my aunt & uncle but they'd just look at me like I spoke a foreign language and shake their heads if I mentioned any NES game other than Zelda. I'm gonna look through that Wikipedia list, thanks for the link! :D

if you go to gamefaqs, find the game you want and click "images" it often shows the various cover art for different regions. For instance: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/image/587386.html
