Mame Database...?

Post by SlyEnemy »

When I first got my hands of Mame, I fell in love. As a kid I was always getting stuck into Golden Axe, Metal Slug, Street Fighter and plenty of other classics whenever we went on holiday, so Mame was the perfect thing to keep my short attention span sated.

There are, clearly, thousands of games however. I've discovered a mountain of games I love just by hitting a random game and seeing if it's any good - But I was wondering if there was a better source of info out there?

Really, what I'm looking for, is something akin to a database search, something where I could, say, search for 4 player games, filtered in second by a game score. Or perhaps search for the best rated games that are platformers, or beat-em-ups... Just something that categorises everything, sorting the wheat from the chaff or the different categories of games.

If there isn't one available, I was considering starting something myself, possibly just an Excel Spreadsheet. It'd take a lot of work, but as I use Mame a Hell of a lot could easily be added to consistantly, as and when I try something new. Obviously it would be much more preferable to have something already created though :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use the UIFX variant, It keeps track of how many times you've played a game, and has a tab for # of players. Granted it doesn't have a popularity score, but If you use the Kaillera version of MAME you can see how many and which games people are waiting to play multiplayer with you.

Excellent! You know, I found that site years ago and had completely forgotten about it. Thanks again Anapan!

That's some sweet database work right there! Myself I use MAWS because I'm also interested in the technical aspects of the games. You can download offline dats that are referenced in the front-end of your choice. History.dat and Mameinfo.dat

Looks nice Pulsar.

I've been looking at a few different UI's and came across something called Hyperspin, anyone familiar with it? It looks like the sort of thing I'm after for hooking up my "arcade" to the TV when I get hold of a Revo. Video of it in action here:
