Does the 32x do damage to original Genesis games?
Does the 32x do damage to original Genesis games?
The title says it all. I heard this rumor in an AVGN video. Searched the googles and racketboy with no results.

Never happened to me, or anyone I know. Remember, AVGN is for entertainment purposes only.

Re: Does the 32x do damage to original Genesis games?
I've had some problems running games with the 32X in the Genesis and then they work just fine without it. But nothing's been damaged that I can tell so that's probably just the connection between the systems.
Also on the AVGN video he said it was just a rumor.

Since this is a question regarding the Sega 32X/Genesis, this belongs in the Sega forum. Please be mindful of where you create new topics in future.

Re: Does the 32x do damage to original Genesis games?
I've never personally had a problem running Genesis games in the 32X add-on. I recently played through Gunstar Heroes and a horribly dirty copy of Mickey Mania that I had to pretty much refurbish, and I never had any issues.
I figured I probably should note that I don't have the spacer that is supposed to hold the 32X in place. Perhaps that is rumored to do the damage?

I think you should be fine -- while I didn't play games on my Genesis every day or anything, I did have a 32X on my Genesis for years and never had any noticeable damage.
Carts seem pretty durable and worst-case it would take a lot of repeat use on the same cart (taking it in and out a lot) and you might have to re-buy a cart only-version of the game (dirt cheap in most cases)
So I really wouldn't worry about it.

AVGN exaggerates too much
no the worst thing that can happen is putting it on the 32x on the gensis 2 without the spacer and consantly wiggling
or stacking too many things
game
sonic and knuckles
game genie
cartridge cleaner
32x
genesis

Alright, thanks guys. I've been thinking about buying a 32X and couldn't find that information anywhere else. (Funny how I'd want one after watching AVGN's video.

This reminds me of how I used to play Sonic 3 & Knuckes. From bottom to top it went:
Sega CD
Genesis
32X
Game Genie
Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic 3
@OP
I got a 32X when it was fairly new and left it in my Genesis always. After all these years, I have never had any problems or damaged Genesis carts.
Re: Does the 32x do damage to original Genesis games?
It actually slightly improves the Genesis's video. I noticed that on one of my model 1 Genesis, there are faint vertical lines in the background of Sonic 1. Then I hooked up the 32X and the lines were gone. I used the same composite cable and model 1 adapter cable on both times.
