What do you expect of the next generation of handhelds?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

What do you expect of the next generation of handhelds?

Post by Erik_Twice »

I only want one thing: Half Life, mod support, touchpad.

It's not very farfetched. Quake (1996) has been succesfully ported to the DS. Metroid Prime Hunters looks better than it and it was a launch title. This means that I'm pretty sure the next generation of handhelds should be able to cover the game up to 1999, when Half-Life was released. This also means those consoles should be on par with the Dreamcast.

Seriously, I think nothing will be more awesome that playing Starcraft or Counter-Strike with your friends while travelling. Do you think we will be able to?

I think Nintendo lost a lot of good opportunities to port Warcraft II or Command and Conquer to the DS, as well as those old shooters. I know it is possible but Nintendo doesn't seem to know it.

I'm hoping for the handhelds to be download only like the PSPGo so that I wouldn't need a flash cart. That and NDS backwards compatibility.

IMO PSP is roughly as powerful as the Dreamcast.

Something compact, backwards compatibility, down loadable and streaming games, streaming movies, internet browser, gps, backlit screen, HDMI out, and please make it durable enough for a 4 year old.

Dreamcast and Gamecube emulation. That's all I want... other than upgraded means of data storage to hold all my disc-based games! :D

I just want something with awesome games I'll want to play. The DS had some great games, but a lot of disappointments too. So, I just want the ratio of good to bad games to be in my favor.

I expect that the next best-selling handheld will be a full on portable media center with some computer capabilities in addition to being a powerfull 3D gaming device.
I want an affordable handheld device with similar specs to an OQO model 2 (800x480 touch-screen, large capacity solid-state harddrive, 1.5+ Ghz, 3D graphics card, slide-out controls like the PSP-Go, but with swappable input methods - keyboard, standard gamepad, and mini-trackball+6 button arcade layout, and 2 large comfortable analog shoulder buttons. It'd have to be a bit smaller and lighter than an OQO. Normally I dislike rumble feedback, but if it was a bass-effect to turn a table into a bass driver like the Kerchoonz K-box it'd be awesome.
It'd be cool if it had small but comfortable optional wireless gamepads to allow it to hook into a big-screen and allow multiplayer gaming.

Well, they did, but not that many, at least Power Stone comes to my mind :)

BTW: As with the consoles - I want to have every generation for as long as possible :)

I want Sega to join the console wars but as a handheld manufacturer. It should be as powerful as the dreamcast and they should port those games. Otherwise, I want this http://ds.nintendolife.com/news/2009/10 ... oming_2010
