dreamSNES speed up - how well does it work?

Post by grittykitty »

i saw this and it made me curious:
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/archiv ... 27338.html

has anyone here tried using european snes roms on dreamsnes? from what they're saying on that forum and from what i read about pal snes games on wikipedia, it seems logical. people on the forum have mentioned some pal games will not speed up, but super mario world and megaman x seem to run faster.

i plan to test this with a few games soon, but it's more difficult finding native pal snes roms (as in not converted from ntsc post-rom dumping). i'd be particularly interested in the mario/zelda games, if you know where to find them

UPDATE: i tried a few games, and for my tastes the speed is still unbearable (last dreamsnes i tried was the version before the most recent, and that one is already 4 years old). a few games that run well were super punch out and lufia II. i had these set to mono sound using the european version of the roms. games that worked kinda okay were megaman 7, secret of mana, pocky and rocky, , legend of zelda, and legend of the mystical ninja - these games all ran better with sound muted and some ran better with transparencies off (though they were needed for some games!). some games that just ran bad were donkey kong country, killer instinct, super mario kart, and sunset riders.

seeing as how i haven't played dreamsnes in such a long time, i can't say if these are improvements or not. but i did notice many of the games ran smooth but slow, as expected when reading about pal 50 hz video running a little slower than ntsc 60 hz.
