pscxe help...

Post by clintnfg »

Ok, I have CDmooby installed and working great. My question is do I just need to save the ISO files as .iso (ex. finalfantasytactics.iso)?
I tried this and the images won't load, is there anything I'm doing wrong/not doing?
thank you very much!

Pscxe? Do you mean Pcsx?

At any rate, ISOs should work just fine. Are you ripping the images yourself? My suggestion would be to simply download it from a website, it's easier than having to rip them yourself.

I'm downloading them, when I click run cd and choose the files from where they are saved the emulator either
a)crashes or b)just shows a black screen.
I'm downloading thelarger files (instead of the ones that are in parts that need to be zipped into one package). I've tried just saving them as blahblahblah.iso I've also tried compressing them as zip files and nothing I'm doing seems to be working. Am I missing a step?

OK, I just tried to download R-type in the smaller files, I then put them in a folder then compressed them into a zip file. I tried using this file, and it didn't work. So I changed the file's name to .iso. This still didn't work (the emulator just showed a black screen). I read on a message board that toggling the dynarec cpu core often times works. I also have the bios properly installed as far as I know. (I got a ps1 disc to load fine)

A zip won't work, compressed files aren't supported. You should get a BIN and a CUE file, you want the BIN. Just rename it with .iso and it should work.

I've never used the program you mention (CDMooby) so I'm not quite sure on the specifics of it. Also, are you using Pcsx or ePSXe?

However, I can offer some advice since I've done a fair amount of PS1 emulating. For the most part you're going to need to download games that are in RARed parts from sites. That's often the way they are uploaded when they're bigger than 100MB (and many great games are).

Once you have your RARs you put them all in a folder together and EXTRACT it by right clicking the first RARed piece and telling it to do so. There is no compressing involved, at least how I've done it. RARs are already compressed files so I don't see why there would be a need to do it again? Using WinRAR (my preferred program) it will un-RAR all the pieces into one or two files (either an ISO or BIN/CUE most often - both of which should be supported by your emulator?).

At this point there should be no need to rename any file because they already should be an image file! So I'm kind of confused about what is going on in your case. Where are you downloading your games from? SnesOrama is a great resource if you haven't been there already.

OK, I figured it out. When it brought up the files that were being downloaded in the file boxes, after about 3 seconds it changed them from .RAR files to files being called "downloadedfile". I had to change them to .RAR files then expand them. Thank you guys so much for helping me, after doing a a little bit of what all of you said I got it to work.
