Basically, has any game experience been ruined to you because of bunnyhopping, wavedashing, skiing or similarly or, on the other hand, has improved it?
I'm curious about your thoughts.

As a man who played a lot of Team Fortress Classic, bunnyhopping, concjumping, and other such physics bugs are awesome. I've used concjumping to save my ass and get me to the flag or to the cap more times than I can count, and bunnyhopping around a map is actually kind of fun. But then again, many of the folks I've played with use these "glitches," and it takes lots of practice and skill to really utilize them effectively.General_Norris wrote:Basically, has any game experience been ruined to you because of bunnyhopping, wavedashing, skiing or similarly or, on the other hand, has improved it?

Learning how to ski turned Tribes 2 into an artform

Exactly what I was going to bring up, skiing made Tribes ridiculously fun.fastbilly1 wrote:Learning how to ski turned Tribes 2 into an artform

If you play a lot of Left 4 Dead your probably familiar with crab walking. A lot of people complain about it because you can pounce with the hunter (his main attack which disables a player on the other team until he's saved) without making any noise.
I personally do not mind if the other team uses it and use it myself in friendly games. However I've run in to people that complain about it, claim they would've won if the other team wasn't using it, and pretty much try to justify losing based on crab walking hunters.
I find that a lot of these people invested in expensive surround sound systems or headphones and have gotten used to begin able to pin-point where people on the other team are when they spawn. In other words you've taken away the one technical advantage they have over just about everyone else, and it pisses them off. I enjoy playing against these people as I can mess with their heads. I'll spawn the next room over, make some noise and run around a corner. When they come chasing after me because they pin-pointed my last location I'll pounce around the corner with two wall pounces and take them by surprise every time.
In other words I use their so called advantage against them.
Your using a glitch when you crab walk but the _only_ advantage it gives you is a silent hunter when crouching. All other special infected constantly make noise, and hunters are silent when walking. So like I said I do not mind if people do it and do it myself when I'm playing with friends or just goofing off.
There are other glitches in the game that I consider bad though. The main one is the glitch people playing as infected can use to block the path. In many places in the game it is possible for the other team to place dumpsters and other large objects in door ways, hallways, and at the top of ladders. Sometimes the other team can move them or get around them, other times it is just impossible to get around them and no matter what you do your pretty much dead at that point. I personally do this glitch with style when I use it: Wait for them to start climbing up the ladder and push the dumpster down the hole for the instant win.
Another fun glitch in this game that ended up becoming "legit" in L4D2; instant killing. By pulling the survivors when they are standing in certain places on the map it is possible to instantly kill them using the smoker. You can also pull them to certain locations where a hunter can pounce them off the end of your tongue and instantly kill them. I've been playing the game for a year now and I'm still finding new places where you can do this. They are used so often these days that even the newbies know where the most well known of them are and advanced - expert players know how to defend against most of them. It really changed how everyone played the game.

Re: Bunnyhoping and other "good" glitches. What do you think?
I played a lot of CS back in the day, and bunnyhopping was a real problem. The specific issue has to do with the map design. Both teams start off in one location, and it's really just team deathmatch no respawn with the ability to force a camper to move or he'll lose by default. Bunnyhopping gave you enough of a speed boost that you could get to a location that allowed you to pick off half their team because moving at normal speed no one could get to that point in that amount of time. This was later fixed with an update that caused you to pause a bit upon landing from a jump, which completely destroys the momentum you need to bunnyhop. It really depends on what the advantage gets you.

I'd just like to point out that Wave dashing is not a gltich. Sure Melee players abuse it to no end (though its not as powerful a tactic as one unexperienced person might think), but it was indeed put into the game intentionally.

This is correct. This also applies to L-canceling.MrHealthy wrote:I'd just like to point out that Wave dashing is not a gltich. Sure Melee players abuse it to no end (though its not as powerful a tactic as one unexperienced person might think), but it was indeed put into the game intentionally.

Bunnyhoping is a glitch found in Quake powered games where you can move at an incredible speed by jumping like a rabbit. This happens because jumping gives you momentum but the "fall" doesn't remove all of it. You can even take fall damage if you collide with a wall!noiseredux wrote:I dont know what this means.
See this video, notice how mast the player is moving:
Wavedashing is a similar bug that happens in Super Smash Bros Melee. Basically it turns a medium-paced game into a really fast one.
Skiing is, if I recall correctly, used in Tribes 2. Basically instead of moving normally you could "slide" or "ski" moving faster than normal.
Hope that helps ^^
EDIT: Okay, Wave Dashing was not a glitch. I'm not expert on SSBM.
