formated and capped without hope

Post by thetooth »

Today i thought it would be a good idea to format my machine to speed it up alittle.

At the very moment i login for the first time i wonder why my internet is so slow... and ofcource i'm over my limit and now have no software or any way of contacting the outside world.

I don't know what time it is because the clock wont sync due to lack of bandwidth and its getting cold in here because i have no way of changing the speed of the cooling fan thats running maxed out without drivers. If anyones out there please take pitty on me :P

Over your limit? Are you on dial-up?

Oh well, you've learned a very important lesson about formatting your hard drive; BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU NEED... INCLUDING DRIVERS! Should be common sense, really.

You do realise that unless you have some kind of miracle CPU that runs way below ambient room temperature that no matter what, the only thing that can happen when a PC is running in a room is the temperature stays constant or gets warmer. It is impossible for it to get colder as a direct result of the PC being switched on.

Nope this is unfortunently... australian internet. Here they make us pay a 600% mark up compared to most developed nations for 3rd world services. The cheapest deal you can get is 160GB for $70AUD/mo and if you go over this limit you are capped to some times less then dialup speeds. If this wern't enough they also use an "on and off peek" time table that you must follow to rashan your bandwidth and the normal setup is 2/3 is peek and the other 1/3 is off peek but there is a varst difference between how much bandwidth you can use in these times... in your peek allocation(the longest one normaly during the day when you wish to use your internet) has 20-50% of your entire bandwidth alounce. so your given about 6hrs to use the remaining 50-80% of your service.

also take into account unless you live right next to or inside of the city you'll only have 2 or 3 choices of providers.

Wow, that is absolutely ridiculous. I thought I had it bad because there are certain places around my town that you cant get cable or internet access because it is too far out in the boondocks.

I cant believe they would throttle your bandwidth like that, its not like there is only a certain amount of bandwidth to go around and they have to ration it out like food. Australia is one of those controlling government bodies though, so who knows.....

Wow... that is literally robbery.

Here, it's a flat rate for fast speeds. I get 36Mbps here. Some places get faster, depending on the location. I feel sorry for you.

I give you pity for your limited internet access that is also overpriced. I can't stand going without net access.

Why do you all think this is some terrible thing that doesn't happen in other countries? Time Warner caps, idk what it is anymore, but it use to be 40gb a month. Comcast caps at 250gb a month and after you exceed that twice, goodbye internet. Verizon has been considering a cap for awhile.

More and more ISPs are creating caps because they're too cheap to upgrade their networks to handle new subscribers. Instead they blame on those dirty people who torrent stuff which is why they need to impose a cap. I'm sorry but if you advertise some speed of internet, I expect to be able to use that speed every second of every day if I so choose because it's what I'm paying for otherwise gtfo and change your advertising.

Unfortunately at my house the only high speed internet available to us is Comcast which has a monopoly in a lot of places around the US meaning they charge what they want.

So even if you don't have a cap right now, don't be surprised if you find one soon. Little fun fact too, the U.S. average internet speed dropped by 2.9% last year.

Dial-up hasn't had a cap since like....1995....I used dial-up as my main internet source up until early 2008 and I still use it once in awhile when i visit relatives and I have not seen a service with a cap besides free ones (which are time caps not bandwidth).
Somebody sell me a model 1 modchip for Saturn. Please.
