Why do you all think this is some terrible thing that doesn't happen in other countries? Time Warner caps, idk what it is anymore, but it use to be 40gb a month. Comcast caps at 250gb a month and after you exceed that twice, goodbye internet. Verizon has been considering a cap for awhile.
More and more ISPs are creating caps because they're too cheap to upgrade their networks to handle new subscribers. Instead they blame on those dirty people who torrent stuff which is why they need to impose a cap. I'm sorry but if you advertise some speed of internet, I expect to be able to use that speed every second of every day if I so choose because it's what I'm paying for otherwise gtfo and change your advertising.
Unfortunately at my house the only high speed internet available to us is Comcast which has a monopoly in a lot of places around the US meaning they charge what they want.
So even if you don't have a cap right now, don't be surprised if you find one soon. Little fun fact too, the U.S. average internet speed dropped by 2.9% last year.

Dial-up hasn't had a cap since like....1995....I used dial-up as my main internet source up until early 2008 and I still use it once in awhile when i visit relatives and I have not seen a service with a cap besides free ones (which are time caps not bandwidth).
