Playing Dreamcast on PC monitor
I am trying to find a way to play my Dreamcast on my PC monitor. The monitor has VGA and DVI. My Dreamcast has RCA (The red, yellow, and white cables). Is there any sort of an adapter I can get to play the Dreamcast on the Monitor?

Would the VGA cable work well with a wide screen monitor?

Yes. I can attest to this. I use it on a 24 inch LG widescreen and it looks great. It looks a bit pixelated but that's just because of the monitor's huge resolution. Just don't sit too close and it will not be a problem.ProfessorK wrote:Would the VGA cable work well with a wide screen monitor?

From composite to VGA, you'll be amazed by graphics improving in signal and increased resolution. Check specs on your monitor that it'll support 640x480 res. Also about 3rd of DC games don't support VGA mode. If CRT you can use Dreamcast lightguns.

I don't think not all dreamcast games support the VGA plug in. Look for a list of supported games and re-think of buying it. I would stick with the S-Video cable.
Re: Playing Dreamcast on PC monitor
I have been waiting for a long time to ask this question but,
I switch from composite to component and I can see a beautiful difference , I couldn't playing Xbox(original) games on composite after using component.
I thought I would skip on this because my TV has composite/component only , no s-video no VGA.
The question
is it worth getting VGA and playing on a 22 display
or composite on a '35-'40 TV, its really a hard choice

I suggest buying a VGA box instead of a cable. That way you have VGA, Svideo, and Composite/RCA, incase a game, ie Bangai-O, does not work on VGA.
And I was skeptical of the upgrade until I got mine. The difference is night and day. Its like using Svideo on a Jaguar.

Re: Playing Dreamcast on PC monitor
There is a huge difference like everyone else has said. The main reason is using a VGA box is the only way to pull a progressive single out of the console.
As for the few games that don't support it: Most can be patched to support the VGA box and if your using backups most of them include that patch. Even with patching there are a few games out there that do not support VGA output but it isn't a deal breaker for most people as you can enjoy them via S-video anyway.
If your going to buy an adapter from racketboy I recommend getting the box over the cable. It costs just a little extra but it is more than worth it imo as it allows you to have the DC hooked up to a computer monitor and TV at the same time and includes a switch to send the output to either one. Basically if you do run in to a game that doesn't support VGA all you have to do is turn the DC off, switch the box to standard output, and turn the DC back on instead of having to fiddle with hooking up another wire.
