another LCD vs. Plasma
I'm leaning towards LCD, but I don't really know anything about TV's. So here's MY deal. The only consoles that would really be played on it would be a Gamecube, and perhaps eventually a Wii. So... what's really the difference? Like I said. I know nothing.
Re: another LCD vs. Plasma
How big do you want to go? If its over 50" I say get a plasma, but under its LCD realm all the way. I like plasma color and it has a super high 600hz refresh, but it is also really energy intensive! Either option will be great for either system you proposed though!
Consoles Owned: Nintendo SNES, Nintendo GameBoy Color, Nintendo GBA, Sony PSX, PS2, PS3, Sega Master, Microsoft XBox

Re: another LCD vs. Plasma
All of my low resolution games look less than stellar on my 42" Vizio LCD. My Wii looks better on my Sony CRT downstairs. On the LCD it looks.......just bad. Others may have a different opinion as every TV is different. In the age of HD being the standard, Nintendo really needs a HD version of the Wii. I mean, they don't even sell SDTVs in stores around me anymore!
Re: another LCD vs. Plasma
Plasma is better contrast especially when you view from an angle. The Gamecube can achieve 480p with Gamecube Nintendo brand component cable. The component cable is pricey on E-bay and only works on the DOL-001 first edition Gamecubes with digital out port. Hold B during game load and enable progressive scan. The Wii when in gamecube mode only supports 480i.
Older retro consoles are best on CRTs.

This is sort of a given. I'm just asking for the sake of argument that a Gamecube without component cables, and a Wii... which would you choose: LCD or plasma. Thank you.

Re: another LCD vs. Plasma
I went with an LCD (Sony Bravia W series) for a few reasons:
1) I have wife/kids who will leave this thing on forever and a day, and LCDs are ever so slightly cheaper to run
2) I know Plasma's have come a long way, but again I have kids who will invariably leave a game or movie paused for hours/days on end if unsupervised. The resistance to burn-in of LCD was a plus for me (and again before I get flamed, I know some Plasmas have moved past this, but I didn't want to chance it)
3) The TV gets used in a bright room in daylight hours. The extra brightness of the LCD meat that it was the way to go.

I can't see what models they tested on (only "2008 and 2009 models"). Is there more detail in another link somewhere?
I'd say you'd be right with name-brand stuff. A lot of the no-name brand gear is using old tech, and probably still suffers the 2007 and earlier problems.

Re: another LCD vs. Plasma
I'll probably go with LCD... this isn't going to be like a "gaming TV", and maybe I should have made that a bit clearer. My wife and I are just planning to replace a TV soon and it will primarily be for, well.. TV and movies. But there's a chance we may get a Wii in the future and I wanted to see what would work with it.
