PSP custom firmware - switching mem sticks
I'm running M33 3.90 Custom Firmware. I'd like to switch to a 16GB mem stick, but if I use mem sticks other than the one I'm currently using, the PSP doesn't boot.
The solution's probably obvious, but I haven't found it after an hour of googling. Does anyone have any advice?

I knew I'd end up embarrassing myself... For some reason, I thought that the firmware was on the PSP's internal memory, if there even is such a thing as internal memory.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Install it to the new Memory Stick?
Thanks for your help, Modman.

Don't sweat it, I'm no genius with the PSP myself.dedalusdedalus wrote:I knew I'd end up embarrassing myself... Thanks for your help, Modman.
Firmware is stored on internal flash inside the PSP, but I don't know how the current custom firmware works.
Back in '06 though I could do just about all of the then current softmods myself no problem, but now all my skills are forgotten or outdated due to not having don any of them since then.

Re: PSP custom firmware - switching mem sticks
Yeah the custom firmware is installed on the PSP itself, other memory cards should work just fine. Just transfer your programs and such over and it should be all good, if you're having trouble with other memory cards then you might need to do some googling on that, I'm not sure what the issue could be, unless you've managed to find a bunch of really crappy memory sticks, but that's unlikely. Unless you're just really unlucky.
On a separate but related note: is there any reason why you're still on 3.90? I'm fairly certain that there aren't any different compatibility issues with later firmwares, and I figure it'd probably fix some things here and there.

Yeah upgrade to CFW 5.00 M33-6 if you want to stick with the m33 CFW (which there's really no reason not to unless you want access to the PSN store, although I think homebrew has fixed that, don't know).
But yeah, once CFW is installed on your PSP you can use any memory stick you want.

Re: PSP custom firmware - switching mem sticks
The only issue I had when swapping in a new memory stick was some programs wouldn't launch, but when I reformatted the new stick within the CFW PSP it solved everything. If you have some issues, that may help

Re: PSP custom firmware - switching mem sticks
Man, I really should update my CFW...3.90 has some serious compatibility issues.
Well, here's the status. When my PSP uses the modded battery that I used to first unlock my PSP, it can only use the original mem stick. But when I switch out the modded battery with an unmodded one, it can use any mem stick.
Problem fixed, I guess...but what's the deal with that?

Re: PSP custom firmware - switching mem sticks
What do you mean by modded battery? Do you mean a hard-modded pandora's battery? Or do you mean a battery that you software switched to pandora, then switched back? Because if you're trying to use the PSP with a battery in pandora mode, it's gonna act pretty weird, so that could be the issue with the card.

Re: PSP custom firmware - switching mem sticks
Oh, it's the "jig-kick battery" that you get by opening up the battery and cutting one of the wires. When that thing's in the PSP, the PSP will only boot up with the original memory card I used in the soft-modding process.
