Honestly, I really suck at most shooters.
I think they are really cool, but I just don't have the skill.
I did enjoy Zero Gunner 2 (Dreamcast) a lot since I actually get pretty far on it.
What's you're favorite 2D shooter?

Ikaruga owns me.
I have it for the Gamecube (plus a Dreamcast rip), but I can't even get past the 2nd level.
I need to play it more though

Like a chump, I sold my copy of GC Ikaruga too. I'm a dumbass... I should've waited a few years for it to reach ridiculous prices on eBay and THEN sold it.
I hated that game so much. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't, no matter how much I played it. It's actually one of the only games I ever disliked enough to sell. I kept SHAQ FU for a longer time than Ikaruga!
The first level boss is really cool though. And I did feel bad after I sold it, because I normally TREASURE(no pun intended) all of my games and this one time I was forced to do something ugly and just downright dispicable by selling it. It's like how I imagine a cop must feel when he has to shoot someone for the first time... it was a necessary action but I hated having to go through with it. My innocence died that day. A piece of ME died that day.
I still wonder to this day, if that game has ever been able to forgive me. I can almost hear Ikaruga telling me, "You sold me! How could you sell me! I trusted you! I LOVED you!"
Damn you Treasure for putting me in that situation.
OK, I'm mental.
Here's my list of faves:
Raiden 2- I used to have the OST, it was awsome.
MUSHA
Lightening Force
R-Type
Thunder Force 5
Keio Flying Squadron
Soukyugurentai
Donpachi
Dodonpachi
Robo Aleste
Lords of Thunder
I would really like to check out some of the PC-Engine shooters like a Gate of Thunder, Spriggan and and those Star Soldier games.
I played Gunhed and Soldier Blade and I really liked those ones.
I haven't really played Air Zonk but it has one of my all time favorite video game tunes. I wish I could get an mp3 of it somewhere...
