If you don't have it yet then go get it. The ability to copy/paste on the go is a very beautiful thing.
Also, everything runs much smoother. Don't listen to all the "it won't work on 1st gen iPods" bullshit. Mines 1st gen and is running 3.0 with great success. It's about 5 dollars right now. I dunno if that's going to spiral into the price of free or if this is just holiday deals.
Also, annoyingly enough, Apple made apps that were only 3.0 compatible (which is bullshit IMO.) The bottom line is that at it's current $5 price, it is well worth your iMoneys.
iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 3.0
Re: iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 3.0
We're actually at 3.1.2 now.
3.0 has been out for nearly 6 months now, where have you been?

Re: iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 3.0
With 3.1+ I lost the ability to tether my non jailbroken iPhone to my netbook which really sucks. I find the tethering function much more useful than anything 3.1+ offers. Keep your copy, paste and your apps I just want free tethering again!! I'll just have to wait until they find another workaround, hopefully sooner than later.
For aal who didn'y know you could tether heres the link http://help.benm.at/help.php

Re: iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 3.0
You could just go back to 3.0 I know I could tether my phone on jailbroke 3.0, I've just upgraded to jailbroken 3.1.2 and noticed my battery life has improved greatly. It runs a bit faster too.
What were you using to tether?

Re: iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 3.0
Is it easy to jailbreak Niode? I love my phone and would hate to brick it. Is there any site you could recommend that has a easy tutorial? I used a backdoor trick to tether that didn't require a jailbreak at the time from this site http://help.benm.at/help.php . Naturally, Apple removed it with the latest FW.Niode wrote:You could just go back to 3.0 I know I could tether my phone on jailbroke 3.0, I've just upgraded to jailbroken 3.1.2 and noticed my battery life has improved greatly. Download pwnage tool. It is mac only though. It is by far the easiest way to jailbreak an iPhone. Just install it and follow the instructions. Could not be easier.
If you only have access to Windows then you can try quickpwn, I don't like using quickpwn because I prefer to wipe the phone and install an already jailbroken ipsw. Rather than installing the official update and then jailbreaking it afterwards. quickpwn is pretty similar to pwnage tool and guides you through the process.
Also, it's pretty hard to brick an iphone. It has 2 levels of restore, so if something goes wrong with a restore using iTunes, you can always use DFU mode to recover the phone. You have to do something incredibly dumb to brick your iphone. I managed to recover an iphone 2g (hate that fucking moniker, it's not the 2nd gen of the iphone, it's the first, so it should be called 1g, and the 3g is 3g because it uses the 3G network) that I accidentally installed the 3g 2.0 firmware on. So I know it's not impossible to recover these phones if you do something stupid.
Good luck.
Also, the reason they removed the ability to unofficially tether your phone was because they decided to monetise the feature and absorb it into the official firmware and feature set. They charge a fucking fortune for it though. On O2 they want to charge £10 for 3GB a month. I think I'd rather just use sfrelay or something similar for free. I never got pulled up/charged extra for it when I used it when we had no internet after we moved.
