Problem with Dreamcast VGA - Bad colors

Post by Devezu »

Let me start off by saying that I love my Dreamcast. Simply being able to hook it up to a nice LCD and seeing the difference in graphics makes the purchase of the adapter worth it.

So here's my problem. I bought the VGA cable (not the box, cable) off of Racketboy here and it works. But, my biggest concern is that it will display heavy tints of either red or green, and have to jiggle it to get correct color, and even then it will sometimes have these lines that are very annoying. Sorta like scan lines, but not quite, and really detract if you are gaming close to the monitor.

So, what I'm asking is - how can I fix this?

This is the adapter.

the factory unit or the aftermarket one ? I'm interested in getting the aftermarket one too and an adapter to go s-video>component to my sharp lcd.

so I'd like to hear what the issue is before I spend.
Ocelot, did it again...sorry Boss !

The fact you say by jiggling the cable makes the image different indicates probably loose connections in the wires...

Yeah, definitely sounds like a dodgy connection. Could be something loose in the plug of the box, or something with the plug for the monitor. Can you try it with another?

I've tried both - the VGA cable is fine because I've connected it to a friend's laptop without a problem. I've opened the box up, and there doesn't seem to be any disconnected cables. What can I do?

Its the connector that connects to your DC. My Dreamcast did it with most of my cables VGA/RF/RGB etc, I just opened it up and bent the pins back up and then I got a much better fit. Works perfect now.
