Yeah, it won't boot. It actually asks you to remove the cheating device, or something like that.

Oh nuts. I was thinking about getting Panzer Dragoon Saga in Japanese because it was that much cheaper.

Re: Question about Japanese Saturn....
I have the NTSC-U version and the game will actually boot with the Action Replay inserted, but it will ask you to take it out, then the game will commence. Are you guys sure that he couldn't just boot the game up with the Action Replay, then take it out after it asks him to do so and continue with the game? I'm pretty sure that the game itself actually does boot up, but it simply asks you to remove the cartridge before you continue - from then on, since the game is already booted, I think the Action Replay should have already done the work required for you to play it on an American system. I have a modded Saturn, so if you'd like me to I can burn a copy of NTSC-J Panzer Dragoon Saga and test it out for you - it will be a week or so before I can do it, but -1 CD-r isn't a huge loss to me.

Re: Question about Japanese Saturn....
I cannot remember which Panzer dragoon I had. Either 1 or 2, but it was pal optimized. full screen. So if you would run that at 60 hz everybody will be very thin en you lose part of the top and bottom of the screen. I had pal console modded to run at 60 hz. So probably that would happen for you too.

Re: Question about Japanese Saturn....
There's an action replay code that lets you boot Panzer Dragoon Saga with the cart inserted. I've only tested it with the USA and PAL versions, but I can dig it out for you if you want it.
Why do you need PAL games to run at 60hz though? I've never had any problems running PAL saturn games on my NTSC saturn/TV. If you backup the game and reburn it you can region patch it. It lets the game run but I have no idea what hz it uses. I've only experienced borders with one PAL game, virtual on. The rest I've tested work fine..

Re: Question about Japanese Saturn....
Since i live in PAL territories all the games i buy are PAL they run at 50hz and its sucks let me tell you tired playing Sonic or Nights at 50 hz so damn slow and boring and wonderful games like panzer dragoon saga have ugly black borders on the top and bottom screens so i cant enjoy my games very well.
Thats my issue i just want to know if i play legit copies of any PAL game on a ntsc/jp Sega Saturn they will force to run in 60hz because i cant find anyone who can mod my saturn for me at all.
Australias the bottom cess pit of gaming only thing people can mod here are Wii's and 360's.

Re: Question about Japanese Saturn....
Why don't you mod it yourself with a 50/60Hz switch, its a fairly simple mod. If you get and old graphics card and practice your soldering it shouldn't be a problem. The region mod is a bit harder, but if you just want to play PAL games at the correct speed/no ugly borders then its your best bet.
If you plan on getting a Japanese Saturn, keep in mind you have to get yourself a 240 > 110V stepdown converter, they cost about $100AUD from a Dick Smith. You can find them cheaper but I dont know what type of electronic stores you have over there.
