When it comes to windows xp i really don't like updating beyond sp1. But when Fallout 3 came out i just had to play it and unfortunately for me i had to update to sp2 so i could install games for windows. Otherwise it just would not run at all.
Now a year later i have formatted my pc back to sp1 but i felt why not give Fallout 3 a spin.
And here's how
I downloaded this
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1086
but when i ran it kept asking for a Fallout.ini which the game creates when you run it.
Since i could not run it at all no such file existed but the trick is just create a dummy Fallout.ini in My documents/My games/Fallout 3
Then run the program again and it disables the games for windows requirement. And lastly delete the dummy Fallout.ini file you created and it should run.
And i've been playing now up to level 8 and no unexpected errors or any problems at all.

Why would you not want anything past sp1? It's gotten quite considerably better since then.

Yeah I would have to agree there. Sp2 is great. I held off on sp3 but still installed it in the end. There are so many security patches and a few improvements.

Fallout 3 is the first game I ever bought for my new computer. It's amazing.

What do you mean spam all i did was share info on how to run that game without needing to update windows. I figured maybe that might be of use to someone else.Amon wrote:Yeah I would have to agree there. Sp2 is great. I held off on sp3 but still installed it in the end. Now the reason i do not like to update is support for older windows games. And i like my pc to be able to support as many types of games as possible. Both new and old.
Also security patches ? really is that a reason to update and what are those improvements i am missing out on ?

I think he meant that rather than HIM spamming the forum with a list of all the changes in the SP's that he'd just point you to the wiki article.

People not installing security patches is the reason so many people's machines run like ass when they get zombified and consequently everyone gets more spam in their inbox.arion wrote:Also security patches ? really is that a reason to update and what are those improvements i am missing out on ?
