So I picked up a Turbografx-16 today, as documented in this topic. http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... start=1410
It came with two controllers, and as luck would have it, both have non-responsive buttons. The "I" button on one controller, and the "II" on the other controller. If I hit the button at just the right angle on the "II" controller, it will register as a button press. On "I" controller, its really just hit or miss. Sometimes it will press ten to twenty times in a row and register every time, then just stop working altogether for a little bit.
I took one of them apart just to see if there was anything visibly wrong, but it looked fine to me. Any suggestions from anyone who may know what could be going on? If I get some time tomorrow after work I will try to post some pics of them opened up.

They might have gotten wet at one point in time. I had an XBOX controller do the same thing when I spilled Mountain Dew on it.

Clean, clean, clean, dry, let sit, then try it again.

Re: Turbografx-16 controllers with non-responsive buttons
Could be gunk on the contact of the rubber dome or on the contacts of the board. Open up the controller and clean those. If it still has issues, the conductive stuff in the black pad of the rubber dome could be worn or gone. I saw some conductive paint to repair this sort of thing, but I can't remember if it was online or at Fry's.

I had this happen with the two mega drive controllers I got when I bought the system, take them apart and put all the plastic housing and buttons into a bucket with warm soapy water, leave them in it and let them soak.
Dry, put it back together, see if it worked, if not rinse and repeat.

I second this.Hobie-wan wrote:Could be gunk on the contact of the rubber dome or on the contacts of the board. Open up the controller and clean those. it could be that they have been worn out over use; i've had that happen with my genesis controller

That doesn't really happen. Usually opening it up and cleaning will solve 99% of (overuse) cases.swiftzx wrote:it could be that they have been worn out over use; i've had that happen with my genesis controller
