New genesis (kind of ...)

Post by blue_veilvet »

Hello,

I hope I will not provide any redundant information here, but I learned today that a German shop offers a new variant of the sega mega drive:

http://www.pearl.de/product.jsp?pdid=NC ... 9&curr=DEM

The text contains the following information:

2 controllers

Built-in games: Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Gain Ground, Alex Kidd, Arrow Flash, Columns, Crack Down, Sonic & Knuckles, Bonanza Bros., Eswat - City Under Siege, Golden Axe, Fatal Labyrinth, Flicky, Decap Attack, Shadow Dancer

Compatible for all original sega mega drive cartridges and genesis cartridges from all regions.

I found the last feature very interesting, that thing is supposed to be region-free. I really would like to check if this thing is of any use, but I'm a bit short on money because of the upcoming holidays.

If I am not mistaken this thing came out a few months ago and apparently has absolutely horrendous sound.

That is very depressing, the possibilities could have been great with this machine.

I've read good and bad things about it. The sound really seems to be off sometimes, but as CAv stated, that should not do much of a difference :)

I think I'll give it a try and then report to you guys if this thing is of any use.

I already have an original mega drive, just want to see how this new design fares. And I'd also get an easy way to play imports.

Also, the support for Sega around my area really sucks. We have as good as no thrift stores around here, and while you find a whole lot of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft stuff at the local flea markets, there is hardly any Sega products to be seen.
