So I bought a Neo Geo CD system.

The bidding ended at $46. Is that a good deal?
Also, any game recommendations that you guys might have for me? Are there any exclusives for the NEO Geo CD that I should look out for? Bear in mind that(apart from a few games for the Neo Geo portable) this is my very first experience with anything related to the fully fledged Neo Geo console systems.
I am aware of the fact that there are a few games with ridiculous load times, so I'll make sure to stay clear of those.

For the long load times, most of the games from about 1997 or earlier are tolerable (think Playstation or Sega CD). Later games like Last Blade 2 are absolutely horrible and nigh unplayable.

Looks like you've got Samurai Spirits/Shodown 2, which is a sweet game. The other Samurai games are also worthwhile, as are the Fatal Fury games (including the King of Fighters games) and, to a lesser degree, the Art of Fighting and World Heroes games.

Windjammer/Flying Power Disc is a MUST BUY in my opinion. Twinkle Star Sprites is also definitely worth getting, although it's a bit expensive sometimes. Obviously the Metal Slug games are AAA titles and, while pricey, are MUCH cheaper than their AES counterparts.

Some of the shoot 'em ups are fairly expensive, but you should be able to get some of the Sonic Wings/Aero Fighters games for a good price.

I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions, but these are my recommendations for starting out a Neo Geo CD collection. Luckly, you can try before you buy with the Neo CD as it reads burnt discs without too many issues (although a lot of the games I've burnt do have sound issues and I'm guessing that they are hard on the disc drive).

Thats about as good as my deal. I got a boxed Neo Geo CD w/ region switch and Samurai Shodown 1, 2 and Nam 1975 for $60.

Metal Slug is going to be expensive but the system is easy to burn games for, just use top quality discs. I would recommend other then the typical fighters Iron Clad, Windjammers, Aero fighters 1 and 2, Over Top, Slam Dunk, Senokou 1-3, and Top Hunter and none of these have long load times.

Now fighters getting any of the staple series is fine Fatal Fury, S Shodown, KoF, and Art of fighting. But Last Blade and Galaxy Fight are my favs other then the adove mentioned.

Funny thing is that a little while back I was doing some browsing over at the NeoGeo forums(I had the intention of asking there about suggestions wrt the NGCD, but that place is definately not noob friendly) and I happened to come upon a thread where you yourself had mentioned that you had picked up a NGCD for around $20. That kinda gave me the idea that I should just bide my time and that maybe I'll also be able to find a decent deal.

There was a reason it was only $20... in a countryside shop in Japan where the NGCD was actually a common system. There is virtually no way that sort of deal would ever turn up online except in a rare case. Even in this case, it wasn't a real deal as I still have to sort out the video problem on that same system.

It's just a big group mass debate* over there. They need their large Neo Geo collections to make up for something else lacking in their lives/anatomy.

I made the switch to MVS not so long ago because a good deal had showed up. I think the NGCD for that price is definitely solid if not amazing. The load times on the system are bearable to an extent, games such as KoF 99 and LB2 are practically unbearable. God have mercy on those poor souls playing those games on the NGCD. You should definitely look at some of the shmups that are also part of the NGCD. Pulstar and Last Resort are the first that come to mind. Iron Clad is the most notable CD exclusive but runs for quite a bit more than it is worth. It is just a sub par game. Great console without a doubt.
