"Based on the latest developments in neuro-technology, Emotiv has developed a revolutionary new personal interface for human computer interaction.

The Emotiv EPOC uses a set of sensors to tune into electric signals produced by the brain to detect player thoughts, feelings and expressions and connects wirelessly to most PCs."

I've been waiting for this thing to actually be announced to ship, and it's finally here!
Who else would like something like this?

Over the years, there have been various kinds of technology that use brain waves to control things. I remember hearing about a keyboard that could operate on MIDI messages translated and sent from a brain wave scanner.

The problem with this stuff is that the science of the brain isn't exact enough to have these kinds of gadgets do anything that feels terribly natural. I've used some similar 'brain training' equipment that has you play very simple games with an EEG cap on that is supposed to pick up readings from parts of your brain that could use more activity to strengthen. It took a while to learn how to do something very simple, like turn a switch off and on because you had to train yourself to think in a certain way to activate the device. It would have been much easier to just press a button. It's not like this stuff can have you imagine what you want your character to do and then they do it. It's interesting technology, but I'm not convinced that it is very intuitive to use.

I've been watching this thing for over a year or so, and from previews from different online publications it seems like this one is pretty intuitive. Then again like you said, there has been many of these for the past few years and they didn't live up to the hype.

Personally I'm pretty excited about it. I guess we'll have to see how this one turns out after the holidays. Unfortunately, finding videos and previews are a little scattered because they redesign the website every couple months.

It would be difficult to learn to control anything more than a cursor or switch. Because thinking bananas for someone may be move left while thinking about pooping in public would be left for someone else.

Great for people that can't use their limbs though.
Thanks everyone...
