Ok, I'm leaving this in Whatever, though I technically have a technical issue because of how it all relates...plus, I want everybody to get a good laugh from my predicament.
I'd been interested in picking up a copy of Scratches for a little while now, and I saw a copy of the latest version(Scratches: Director's Cut) so I figured I'd pick it up.
Unfortunately, my DVD drive won't read the disc. I haven't had any problems like this with any other disc(and to make sure, I went ahead and tested another game to see if it would load properly), and the disc doesn't have any marks or anything: it's brand new, after all. So I figure I'll go and look up tech support to see if there's any mention of this problem.
Checking the US publisher's site, I see they don't do tech support, but they tell me to go to the developer's site. So I follow the link and, to my horror, I discover that apparently the company that developed it no longer exists. Apparently it fell apart two months ago. So now I have no idea who I can report this too. I went ahead and checked out their forums, but those have slowly turned into a ghost town over the last two months.
Guess I'm just up shit creek, huh? Anybody else ever have this happen to them?
Well this sucks.

Re: Well this sucks.
I haven't had the manufacturer disappear on something I just bought before, but I have a suggestion to try to get it working. See if another PC drive will read it. I had problems with my main machine not liking disc 2 of Unreal Tournament 2003 back in the day. Every other drive I put it in was fine, so I didn't feel like going to fight at the store. During various reinstalls of the game I either mapped it as a drive while sitting in another PC, or had a copy of the contents copied from another machine on the network and redirected it where when it asked for #2.

Yeah, I just don't have another computer handy at 1:00 am to try it, haha. Guess I'm just going to have to sit on this one for a bit.

Sorry, that probably isn't the help you want.

Nah, it's cool. I appreciate the help, and it's probably what I'll end up doing in the meantime. It just adds a momentary hurdle.jp1 wrote:Well, you already paid for it so.....

I would follow Hobie-Wan's advice. I've had similar issues happen with CDs where they would only read in one computer drive, but not another, so I just burned the disc in one machine and transferred the files to the other.
Any chance you can take this back to the retailer?

It will be a couple of weeks. I bought it while I was visiting my girlfriend and I won't be back over there for a little while.J T wrote:I would follow Hobie-Wan's advice.
