So I'm a bit late to the party, but I just discovered Mortal Online. Evidently it's being developed by former Ultima Online beta team members and basically shares many of the same mechanics that made UO so awesome in the early days.
I'm planning to buy a copy to get into beta (as soon as the store is working properly) so I'll post my thoughts and focus on comparing it with UO, since I know there are some older players around here.
If anyone else is playing or plans to try this, by all means let's let one another know.
By the way, here's a link to the main game page: http://www.mortalonline.com/
Edit: Oops--this should be moved to the Sony/MS board, as it's about a PC game.
Anyone interested in Mortal Online?

Actually this comparison is being made by quite a few. I've heard some beta players describe it as a combination of UO, Morrowind and EVE. I haven't played the latter but trust that it must have some components worth borrowing from.fastbilly1 wrote:Looks like Morrowind online...Im in.

Oh Hell, I may have to play this. It sounds interesting, and if it's as open as it sounds, I'm forming a mercenary troupe. Anybody care to join in some pillaging, looting, razing, assassination, and general banditry? I aim to be a bastard.

Haha. I surely will volunteer for just such a band of thugs. It's how I made my living in the early days of UO after all.Ack wrote:Oh Hell, I may have to play this. Older. Not wiser.
Re: Anyone interested in Mortal Online?
Oohh...having ready a bit more, it appears as if I would be able to do some of the things I've always wanted to do in a game:
1) Form a cult.
2) Form a mercenary band.
3) Form a network of spies.
It might even be possible to combine these, or do all three at once. Shoot, I might even be able to secretly run a city...or better, a nation. I like where this is going.

Well assuming it all pans out, I have some excellent tactics involving the flagging system. If it works like UO then our presumed band of vagabonds and cut throats could make quite a living for ourselves.

We cant just treat this like UO. We must destroy the economy!

In time. You know we'll end up doing it at least once.fastbilly1 wrote:We cant just treat this like UO. We must destroy the economy!
Also, apparently you can create your own gods, and if they become popular enough the devs might elevate them to the official pantheon. Anybody else thinking what I'm thinking?
