Your Videogame Theater

Post by BlackDS »

It doesn't have to be fancy, just how do you have your consoles hooked up?
In the basement I have a ~17 inch TV, which runs my PS2, GC, DC, and N64.
The systems sit on a shelf below the TV, and the PS2 (about 25) and GC games (about 80) are below that. To the left is a small dresser which holds the DC games, Playstation games, a VCR 8) , a GC steering wheel, a gamegear with about 120 games, and an NGPC with 17 games.

Next, in my room I have a 12 inch TV, which is sitting precariously on top of a dresser. I have a Genesis 2 and another N64 hooked up to that one, as well as a 2600 I can plug in at any time. Right next to it is a fuckin Apple 2gs 8) . On the other side of my bed is where all the games are stored. There are ~150 2600, ~80 N64, and 6 Genesis games, as well as a CIB BlackDS with 21 games, a pimp-ass "who are you" Gameboy Advance SP, with 30 games (including 10 original GB games), and a Nokia N-gage with 22 games.

I have a 10 or 12 inch tv that sits on a shelf on my desk. Whatever systems I'm playing sit on the desk. Whatever I'm not sits in my closet with the games.

I have a modern, long and low entertainment center in my basement sitting below three monitors. I have a 27" JVC CRT with S-Video, a 24" FW900 CRT with an HDFury2, and a tiny 14" Commodore 1084 monitor for RGB. In the drawer of the entertainment center I've managed to fit as many as nine consoles, which involved some creative use as only the shelf was meant for anything with cables. Currently there's seven in the center, including Xbox, 3DO, Jaguar, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, and PS2. My Japanese Xbox 360 and SNES are sitting off to the side outside of the setup, as well as my audio receiver. I'd like to hook all of my consoles up eventually (something like nine other consoles aren't hooked up), but I need shelves and I also need to mod some cables to get RGB going. Off to the side is also my Vectrex. As you can probably guess, my wife hates seeing all those monitors side by side. :?

Upstairs we have a 50" Plasma, which the U.S. Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 (if it weren't busted) are hooked up to. I'd eventually like to move all the systems to the basement, but the basement is in sore need of renovation.

I've got a 32" sony CRT on top of a wooden AV cabinet with a reciever in it. Next to it I have a 4'x6'x2' black wire shelving unit with all my consoles on it. I've got 4 4 way svideo switch boxes on the top shelf to switch between them all. I'm going to add a little cart underneath the shelving unit for my atari/coleco/intellivision stuff. They all have long RF cables and short controller cables, so they need to be pulled closer for use. I just have to find a nice cart.

Good call on the IIgs, btw. I have one right next to this computer. I just got a 4mb ram card for it so I can play wolf3d on it. Don't have a CFFA adaptor or scsi card for it, so I hooked it up to a mac classic over localtalk and shared the hard disk. It works surprisingly well. I trust you have a serial cable and a supply of floppies for use with ADTpro?

I'm going to take pictures of all of this once I get it all settled. Still not sure how to best display the games.

I've got almost everything hooked up to a single TV in the living room:

50" Plasma
HDMI1 - PC
HDMI2 - 360
HDMI3 - PS3
Component1 - Component Switch Box
Component 2 - Wii
VGA - XRGB

Component Switch Box (can fit 4, but this way I can keep Component 2 on Widescreen and Component 1 on 4:3)
1 - Game Cube
2 - XBox
3 - Neo Geo

XRGB
S-Video1 - Switch Box 1
S-Video 2 - Switch Box 2
AV2 - Switch Box 2 (the switch has two S-Video devices and two AV devices)
VGA - Dreamcast

Switch Box 1
1 - SNES
2 - N64
3 - PS1
4 - PS2

Switch Box 2 (first two are S-Video)
1 - Saturn
2 - 3DO
3 - Genesis + CD + 32x

Then in the bedroom I have my two consoles I have light guns for hooked up to my old TV, plus a Vectrex.

Great setup Popo, having so many systems complicates things.

Most of my consoles are hooked in my room:

21" LG Flat CRT - only RCA no s-video or component need to upgrade this thing.
4 port switchbox rca, s-video, component and network connections
Xbox - main media player
Wii
PS2
One for hooking random console I'm playing
No extra speakers of any kind

Computer is in another room:

24" Dell widescreen monitor
DVI - PC
VGA - Dreamcast
Component - PS2, sometimes bring over the Xbox or Wii
S-video - free, want to buy cables for SNES, N64, GC and Saturn
RCA - never hook up anything there
5.1 home theater speakers, planning to move to my room and buy real PC speakers

In the living room gaming is done rarely only when too many friends come over, its a 29" Samsung Flat CRT with rca, s-video and component.

In the future when I have my own place will setup a nice game room with a big ass Plasma or LCD and CRT on the side for older consoles and lightguns. Right now with this 24" monitor I can do just fine since it does 1080p just need to buy an hdmi-to-dvi converter when I buy the PS3 this holiday.

Thanks to you guys I've learned a lot about video signals and TVs and the wonderful box that is the XRGB.
Consoles: NES, Famicom, SNES, GC, GB DMG, GB Pocket, GBC, GBA, DSI XL, N64, VBoy, NDS, 3DSXL, Wii, SMS, GEN+CD+32X, GG, SAT, DC, WS, WS Color, NGPC, XBOX, 360, PS1, PSone, PS2, PSP, PS3, 3DO, CD-I, NGCD, Actionmax, TG16+CD, TE, PCE-DUO, Odyssey2, Playdia, 2600, Lynx & JAG.

In the Living Room I have a wooden wall unit entertainment center that houses a 37" Toshiba 720p LCD. (I can definitely go bigger here!) I have the 360(hdmi), PS3(hdmi), Wii(component), and my slim PS2(component) hooked up here. (I also keep video connectors for DC(s-video) and XBOX(component) hooked up to the TV incase the need strikes to play them out here. I have a Pioneer HTIB that is running in 2.1 mode (since my 3 year old has wrecked the wiring for the surrounds 3 times) set up here.

Also in the Living Room is the computer desk where our primary PC resides. That is hooked up to a 22" LCD. This PC is used by everybody in the house and serves as the gaming PC and file server. I have a dvi-hdmi cable ran to the TV as well, though that hardly ever gets used that way anymore. Audio is a Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system here.

We also have a Dell Mini 10 netbook that gets used around the house. Hooked up to the TV via hdmi for emulators, or just twitter and web browsing from the recliner.

On to the Bedroom, we have a 32" Sharp SDTV in there on a corner wooden TV stand. I have the XBOX running XBMC(component), Fat PS2(component) and DC(s-video) hooked up here. Most of my old school pre-PSX gaming is done on the PC via emulators, though the XBOX has a bunch on there too...

The PC serves up movies, TV shows, and music to both TVs via the XBOX (XBMC) in the bedroom and the PS3 (PS3 Media Server and PlayOn) in the living room.

My videogame theater is... heh, kinda nonexistent... ^_^;

I have a 32-inch RCA 720p LCD mounted up on the wall in my bedroom, right above my desk with my Dell laptop under it for easy VGA out (for avis and xvids), and with a shelf next to it that has a VHS/DVD combo and DVDs. My game consoles and games are stored under my bed in transparent plastic bins... :P Whatever console I'm playing is pulled out of a bin, put on the floor, and is hooked up through my DVD player's A/V inputs. I've got a VERY small room, with whatever shelf space left taken up by books and random figures/plushies, so hence all the gaming stuff stored under the bed. My brother has a couple of consoles in his room that are actually hooked up and in plain sight, and there's a Wii hooked up to the main TV in the living room, but it's hardly ever used since my dad's always watching something on TV
