My first attempt at a review.

Post by newt42 »

It surprisingly took a lot of time to make. I think I'm definitely shortening down the next one... by a lot...

Any advice would be awesome. Anything I did paticularly wrong?

Great job! I much rather enjoyed the review. I have to go back and play that game, because I am playing it on the Saturn and only played with D-Pad. That didn't last too long.

Pretty good. Like others said, its just a little long. Once you get a better feel for pacing I'm sure you'll tighten them up.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm definitely shortening them down a lot. It was originally supposed to be only 8 minutes long, but for some reason, Quicktime decided to tag on an extra 2 minutes of nothingness at the end.

Still, I think 8 minutes could have easily been shortened down to like, 5.

Cool editing and writing for your first review :) I wish I could do one of those but I lack the video capture equipment for a quality video. Anyway, looking forward to your next one, like I asked on YT, are you going to focus on rare games like this one?

Good review! I don't think that the length of the video really bothered me at all.

Great editing and presentation, especially for your first review.

To improve the flow I suggest trying to do the narration in a more natural flow by trying to imagine as if you were simply telling a friend about the game in detail, and you'll find it can make your fluidity improve greatly. It helped me back when I did a few game reviews on YouTube myself, unfortunately my then-friend who's computer contained the source files and editing software and I ended it over an argument on the direction of the show (He preferred a doing the narration style in a jackassed biased manner, and I preferred to narrate in a balanced style that gave equal treatment to the game's highs and lows.) which resulted in all of our content being destroyed.

I may give it a go again one day, but all I own is a S-VHS-C camcorder and have no capture card or editing software so it would be quite the challenge.

Anyhow, you had a great review especially for your first time. Keep at it and you'll be hitting home runs by your third or fourth review.

I tried to reply to it, but since YouTube was being retarded...

Yeah, I'll be doing a lot of games that not everyone has heard of. Some rare, some cheap as hell.

Awesome! That was all very helpful advice. Thanks.

I'll be honest - I was put off by the opening text:

"This is an amateur review of, Croc Legend of the Gobbos"

- It is grammatically incorrect (no need for a comma)
- It suggests that the review might not be very good (only "amateur")

I did persevere past this and found a decent review - I'd echo much of what was said above. But you must do something about the intro - it sets the wrong tone entirely.

Also, at the end you repeat yourself a few times in the short "worth buying?" segment. I think that you would do best to leave yourself off camera and focus only on game footage instead. Nothing against you, but it works best when the attention is on the game.

Also 7 out of 10 is usually represented as 7/10, not 7-10.
