Best place to buy new XBOX controller S?

Post by Jayson »

Having just bought a modded XBOX (love it), I am having a hard time finding a good place to buy a NEW controller S.

Lots of used and knock offs on eBay, but I have always been really weird on used controllers unless they look immaculate (like the brand new DC controller Flak Beard sent me with the DC I bought from him!).

The system came with a Gamestop wireless controller that works good only as a remote for XBMC and another knockoff that was partially broken. I bought a Gamestop branded one (ewww) that seems OK (for now), but I want to get a couple of new S's soon.

Good luck, if you find a place send me a PM.

I've been barking up this tree for a long time, I guess it's just the perils of buying Microsoft and the fact that as soon as the 360 came out all original Xbox accessory supply and support was cut off to "encourage" (cough force cough) people to upgrade to a 360.

Mod_Man, since you work for Gamestop, what's you opinion on the quality of the Eclipse controller they sell? http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Product ... t_id=38357

This is the one I got for a stopgap while I continue my search and it seems pretty close to the original (a little different feel of course), but it feels a little fragile. You guys get a lot of returns on it?

I'd like to get an Xbox eventually. I remember the controller S being more comfortable than 360 and Dreamcast but not as good as the Saturn 3D controller.

I used to be a really big fan of the "duke" controller, initially shrugging off the S when it came out. Now I can only really use the duke when playing driving games.

I would settle for a new duke controller as well, though those are harder to find.

I wouldn't know at all honestly as my store doesn't sell Xbox games at all anymore since March (We never really sold any new accessories as our usual Xbox clientele in my area were junkies, wasteoids and generally unkempt frat boys with a penchant to return every game they bought within a week.) and I personally think that all generics (Minus Logitech, they make awesome stuff!) are pure shit that I won't touch unless it's the only way to get a specific specialty/novelty controller such as light guns etc...

Honestly just get a good condition used Duke or Controller S and wipe it down with a clean rag moistened with some 70% By Volume Rubbing Alcohol to sterilize the controller and remove all the filth that tends to build up on them.

The Controller S is infinitely more comfortable than the 360 controller, I'd say strike now if you want an original Xbox as for the moment you can get one for around $15-$40 used in great shape before prices begin to rise.

I don't have very large hands but for some reason I find the Duke controller the most comfortable to hold. It's def one of my favourite controllers.

Having experience with a couple generics, logitech is your best bet if you can't find the genuine Microsoft controller. They are the only company that doesn't skim on the quality of the build. If i buy third party, I'll only buy from them. Honestly, you can go either way, Logitech controllers are just as good.

If you're interested in a Controller S, I'd instead recommend a Pelican Precision Controller that you can find at Walmart brand new for under $15. It's practically the same thing as a Controller S but a smidgen smaller and slightly more comfortable.

But at the end of the day, I think you should just do what I did and find a PS2-to-Xbox controller adapter and use a Dualshock or suitable third-party PS1/PS2 controller.

I never liked ANY original Xbox controller that was available for that system.

The 360 controller on the other hand.. that thing is perfect. One of the best controller's ever made
