Modded Saturn wont play all CDRs?

Post by DC906270 »

Ive just purchased a Modded Saturn, plays 90% of games ive tried, but the thing has problems playing Princess Crown or other games with a lot of in-game loading. Princess Crown gets the message "Disc read error" message coming up on the screen in-game and it freezes. Other games just suddenly stop loading and revert back to the Saturn 'CD player' screen.

Anyone else have similar problems? Likely causes/remedies?

And yes, ive tried multiple burns, and checked the discs in SSF, where they work fine.

Have you tried different media? I know the early CD devices sometimes have trouble with certain brands of CD-Rs.

thanks , i could try that. just wanted to know other peoples experiences with modded saturns and princess crown? anyone have it working via a modded saturn?
also, if its the media why is it playing 90% of all other games (burnt onto the same media - Verbatim 700MB/80min CDR)?

You also should make sure that you are burning your discs at a slower speed. I had problems with a modded PSX and a lot of people suggested that to me. In the end my problem had to do with the laser going bad, so I would maybe try some legit Saturn games to see if you have similar problems with those.

Good luck!

In that case then I would almost be certain that its either a lack of quality media, or maybe the discs need to be burned at a slower speed! I hope you can get it figured out. :D

give taiyo yuden a try. they are pricey but well worth it. never had a coaster with psx, duo, neo cd, or saturn games. burned at 24x.

got it working, with really cheap, budget CD-R. would you believe it , the saturn is able to read budget CD-R better than Verbatim.

some tips though for cdr-s and saturns-
avoid "Datawrite" CD-R (widely available in UK) as they perform worse than Verbatim.
Verbatim run 90% of Saturn games, but seem to have a problem with "heavy" in game loading-games like Princess Crown and D&D.
I used really cheap CD-R and they work perfect!

Nice! Glad to hear its working now. How is the game anyway? This is actually the first time I've heard of Princess Crown.
