Dreamcast controller question
I know a lot of you guys are huge DC fans, so I'm not attempting to upset anyone with this question, but I've always found the DC controller to be well...bad. It's big and bulky and ugly. Just my personal opinion, nothing more. So my question is, were there other alternative controller layouts released for the DC? Maybe something a little more, um "traditional" for a console controller?
Re: Dreamcast controller question
There is always the fishing controller and the arcade stick. Third party wise there were a few different styles out there. I believe I have this one
but I am one of those people that prefer the orig dreamcast controller.
There are also adapters you can buy that let you plug in PS1 controllers, and Saturn controllers.

Re: Dreamcast controller question
Since we are talking about Dreamcast controllers... I'm having trouble with the d-pad. It's not broken or anything but I think it's hard to play shmups with it. Is there any controller that makes this better than the original?
Thanks everyone...

Re: Dreamcast controller question
I have big hands, so I prefer larger controllers to prevent cramping. All the 3rd party DC controllers I've seen were big too though.
Hmm, except this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Sega-Dreamcast-Asci ... 518d2b6b91
But pricey.

Think the solution for that is pretty much buy a stick.Gnashvar wrote:Since we are talking about Dreamcast controllers... I'm having trouble with the d-pad. It's not broken or anything but I think it's hard to play shmups with it. Is there any controller that makes this better than the original?
I need one myself, or to pick up a PSX to DC adapter.

I'll probably have to do that. I love d-pads but the one on the Dreamcast controller really stinksHobie-wan wrote:Think the solution for that is pretty much buy a stick.Gnashvar wrote:Since we are talking about Dreamcast controllers... My friend said he noticed a big difference between early Japanese made DC pads and the later ones made in China/Taiwain/Indonesia. Maybe see which you've got.

I have this pad. It's great for fighting games but that is it.Hobie-wan wrote:I have big hands, so I prefer larger controllers to prevent cramping. All the 3rd party DC controllers I've seen were big too though.

There is no L or R triggers - from my experience the extra buttons on the controller are only recognized in fighting games and the D-Pad is just that, there is no analog stick.
So if you need the L and R triggers and the game makes you use the analog stick, this pad is not for you.
Re: Dreamcast controller question
I personnally use the VirtuaStick Controller (for Sega Saturn) plugged to my Dreamcast. Really great for fightinng games & shootemups.
For driving games, the original DC controller is OK.

Re: Dreamcast controller question
The extra two buttons C and Z are actually the L and R triggers but digital instead of analog so they are handled differently.
