What's Your Favorite Asteroids/Pong/Breakout Clone?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

What's Your Favorite Asteroids/Pong/Breakout Clone?

Post by racketboy »

When it comes to the very early arcade hits like Asteroids, Pong, and Breakout, there were a lot of clones, ports, and enhancements done through the decades.

List and/or link to your favorites.
They can be Flash games, portable, console, or PC.
It can be an accurate recreation or just conceptual inspiration.

I'd like to tally up the best of the bunch.

If there are any other classic arcade games that you think would add to the conversation, feel free to talk about it.

I think that geometry wars evolved for the xbox360 live arcade is pretty damn awesome.

We'll stretch the envelope a bit on these...

Breakout -- Warlords 4 player. Puchi Carat, otherwise.

Pong -- Pong 3D, actually, was pretty good.

Asteroids -- that one leaves me wondering... but I would probably agree with the person who suggested Geometry Wars.

For Breakout, Kirby's Block Ball on Game Boy.

For Pong, I'm getting creative and going with Air Hockey for the e-Reader.

Breakout clone, Ricochet Lost Worlds: Recharged

There was another Reflexive breakout clone that was pretty good too and used a good physics engine but I can't remember the name.

+ Armada on the Dreamcast was bases on Asterroids and I haven't played it much but it seems pretty decent.

You can mention more than one for each, BTW

I was always a big fan of Dx-ball 2.

We always used to play it in my greek class in high school instead of doing work.

It was followed up later by a flashier version called Zball...but it was never quite the same.

Tempest 2000

I played the hell out of Tempest 2000 on Atari Jaguar. Probably the best music I've played on a cart based game too.
