Happy 10th Birthday Dreamcast! - UK and AUS Edition

Post by Barry the Nomad »

October 14th, 1999

While I'm a Yank through-and-through, I have to share my love for the European (and Aussie) launch of the Sega Dreamcast. I personally thank Europe for bringing me Shenmue II and Jet Set Radio (the TRUE English release of the game).

Share your love for the blue swirl!

Shouldn't the Australian dreamcast logo swirl the other way?

I never saw the Dreamcast swirl as orange, it's definitely much more of a red. I think people confuse the orange colored light on the console for the red colored swirl. The Japanese packaging is a true orange, though the swirl is actually white placed on an orange background.

The US/Japan swirl is hex color cf3311 or RGB 207/51/17, much closer to red than orange, though a bit of orange is mixed in.

I always saw it as a burnt orange. But regardless, the cool blue just looks better to me.

The Dreamcast swirl can always only be blue to me. It makes so much sense because blue = Sega and red = Nintendo.

The US/Japan swirl always appeared red to me as well, rather than orange :?

Anyway, I'm not marking the occasion or anything - which I now feel bad about! I didn't even realise it was the anniversary.
I only got my Dreamcast in 2008, so I've nothing really to commemorate. I can't even re-visit the classics seeing as I've been playing them to death over the last year or so :) .

I will be re-visiting Shenmue again this Christmas though I'm sure.
