Blue PS2 USB mod chip information wanted

Post by Hobie-wan »

So I have this plug in USB mod chip for PS2 that was given to me. I think it might need a wire soldered inside the system to work but I really don't know and I can't find any information on it. I know its old, so may only work with 30000 or 30001 systems. Does anyone have any information or pointers that might help me?

The board inside is really simple. It has an 8 leg IC, a cap, a resistor, and the LED and switch. There are only 3 wires of the USB used and "Kent PS2-U-B" is printed on the PCB.

Swing and a miss buddy. Looks like no one can help.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

hobie, I did try to research this a bit for you. But I couldn't find any info. I used to read a lot about PS2 mods/hacks, but had never heard of a USB modchip mentioned even once. Whatever you have, it's pretty freakin' rare.

Thanks for the effort. I've looked a few times and never come up with anything either. Not a big deal if I don't find out, but thought maybe some modders hanging around here might remember something about it.

How do you know for sure that it is a mod chip for a PS2 and not some other USB device?

Ok, that talks about soldering 1 wire and needing a boot disc too.

This came from a friend and I believe once belonged to another friend whom I half remember having it hooked up to his PS2 way back near launch. I know, tertiary information. Also as noted the PCB inside says "Kent PS2-U-B".

so have you found out anythiing else about this?
im curious because my friend had one back in the days and he claim that just inserting in it and connecting like one wire. Doing this will enable will enabe burn backup to work.

I didnt believe him because all the modchips i know for ps2 were difficult and a mess to do. If this was true aobut that modchip wouldnt everyone rather choose that as the modchip of choice....

Never found anything else no. As I said, I kinda remember the other guy having it plugged in but neither Wipeoutguy nor I can remember more than that for certain. But this was way back when the PS2 was launched that he was using this thing. I've added a HD and FreeMcBoot to my PS2 since then, though I'm just playing imports and things that I own from the HD anyway.

^ yea i did hd loader for my ps2 also , but i just got in argument with my friend lastnight.
Because he claim that he used it to run burn dvd games on it. And i just dont agree it be that easy as plugging a device in the usb and wiring just 1 or 2 wires.

Didnt sound believeable so i search here on racketboy for info and came across your thread.
