Does anyone here know of anyone making translation patches for Saturn games? More spacific Castlevania: Dracula X Jap to Eng??? Just wondering if there was such a thing for this console.
There have been some half-hearted attempts at Saturn translations, but there are a couple of problems that stand in the way: First, mod-chips for the Sega Saturn have always been a bit scarce, and the the swap trick is a pain in the ass, so it would be problematic to play the games on real hardware. Second, we're only now startinng to see decent Saturn emulators. Now that Yabause is starting to shape up, it might be more practical to patch a Saturn game and play on your computer.

SSF has gotten really nice in the past few months, getting quite a few games almost fully playable.
But you check out gamefaqs.com for whatever Japanese import you want to play. I have seen a few walkthroughs and in some cases pretty decent translations.
On the forums at Shining Force Central you can read about the Shining Force 3 translation project. They've translated the Premium disc and are working on re-translating 1 and translating eps 2 and 3 as well.
If we're talking about Symphony of the Night, if you have the option, I think the Playstation North American version is the best way to go(the one I think the Xbox Live port is based on). It's better than the Saturn version, which is really just a port. Better graphics, and it doesn't have performance issues like the Saturn version. The localization even fixed a few grammar and spelling errors(though ironically, added some mistakes like calling the intro stage Bloodlines)
I can't verify this for accuracy, but this is from Wikipedia regarding the Saturn version:
Unfortunately, due to poor coding, there are more and longer load times.[15] Visual effects are also less impressive, such as the mists and the waterfall. Transparency effects are also eliminated.[16] The overall quality is said to be lower than the PlayStation version due to it being a port handled by another team.[17] Kojima has expressed his disdain for the Sega Saturn version
Sure the Saturn version has some extras, but they're not things that the game needed(Alucard really is the most fun character to play as) and I don't think it's a worthy trade off for worse graphics and more load times. Some people dislike the North American english dub, but I've heard far worse
Xbox Live version is the worst. I think they removed some FMV. This is why I hate ports and re-releases
