Saturn Bomberman is saving on the JP version worth it?

Post by GamerMON »

I have a sega saturn with the Action Replay so it is already set up to play imports. I don't know Japanese and don't plan to learn (except menu options). The JP version is a lot cheaper than the American.

Besides net link (which I would never use) and being in my native language, is there any advantage to owning the U.S. release? Savings would help buy more controllers and multi tap.

The language barrier for Bomberman games isn't all that hard to manage. I have the JP version and I'm fairly certain a limited to non Japanese reader can navigate just fine. If you are looking to just play the game and save some cash, get the Japanese version. If you are worried you may be turned off by not being able to read most of the stuff on screen then pay more and get the domestic version. Both games are the same as far as core play goes. I'm a cheapo so I'd go for the Japanese version. Plus, the boxart's cooler.

I have played and beaten Saturn Bomberman to completion and can say that you don't need the American version. The story is easy to understand through the animated cutscenes, the Survival Mode and Battle Mode can be figured out with a few minutes of fiddling around. If it is a lot cheaper than it is a must get because the game is just plain amazing.

Thanks guys. I was on the fence. Ended up finding one on ebay for $15 shipped and getting other stuff from the seller so shipping is going to be cheaper. Now I just need to find more controllers. All I found locally are a broken console and a Eclipse pad. Checked all the thrift stores now I am going to move on to the pawn shops.

Speaking of saving money on the import version of a game; the Japanese version of Panzer Dragoon Saga is only 40 bucks, which is ALOT cheaper then the US version. MY question is would it be worth it to get it in Japanese? I dont speak a lick of it. My guess would be no, but someone can prove me wrong.

I know what you mean. I wouldn't buy it (jp or us). For the price of PD saga you could buy 2 modded saturns.

You're talking about the US version right? Because if I can get 2 modded saturns for only 40 bucks....

Yeah I mean the US. A US copy of PD Saga goes for like $170. A saturn console would 30-40 bucks. A mod chip would cost you 35 bucks. So $150.
I can't believe the savings buying JP games. I see copys of house of the Dead going for $20.

HotD and Bomberman are both games with little need for text. I don't know if I would want to play an rpg in Japanese.

Well the Saturn was more popular in Japan and so those later games were probably pressed more in Japan then America, so theyre more copies of the Japanese ones floating around then the US versions.

And I second the not playing the RPGs in Japanese. Stories are a huge part in RPGs and I dont speak japanese.
