Traditional side scrolling beat-em-ups on the PS1
Traditional side scrolling beat-em-ups on the PS1
I really didn't know there were any that came out on the PS1 but I happened upon this video of the Fantastic Four game doesn't look great but I was wondering if there are any others aside from Japanese releases like Panzer Bandit(which looks like an awesome game).

I was just coming in here to mention panzer bandit...give it a try if you haven't yet, it is a very cool game!
Strider is a side-scroller, kind of....might be something you're interested in.

I was going to bring up Strider as well. It's a bit of a pricey game, but I've heard it's good.

I don't know if I'd count Strider in there. It is good, albeit Strider 2 is fairly short. I'd call the games more of a Run n Slash or something than a beat em up though.

You can't go wrong with Strider 2. It may be kinda short, but it's crazy arcade goodness with a very cool soundtrack.
Castlevania SOTN and Chronicles shouldn't be left out.

Ok, strider, castlevania, etc, these are not beat em ups. Final fight, streets of rage, fighting force, these are the type of games I assume he means.
That said, fighting force isnt that bad. The side scrolling beat em up kind of lived and died in the arcades, the transition to 3d never worked out that well. I'd reccomend die hard arcade and dynomite cop from that era, but those weren't on the playstation. Fighting force was actually billed as the 3d streets of rage, and in my opinoin, it did deliver to a degree. I'd defintily give that a try. Your classic knights of the round, tmnt, etc brawler, well you might have a hard time finding that on the playstation.
