I found a dreamcast being sold with a data switch. My question is, what the hell is it for? I asked the seller and she said, "I think it was used to switch from TV to the dreamcast." Anyone care to shed some light on this!
Thanks

Re: Dreamcast Data Switch?
that's a grainy picture, so it's hard to tell. it's possible that it's a cheat code device, and the cable (which looks like a parallel port or a scsi port) is used to transfer saves and cheats back and forth between the dreamcast and the computer - don't quote me on that, because i don't know if one exists for the dreamcast. my friend had one for the n64 way back.
if it has anything to do with a tv (by the looks of it, it doesn't) it could be a vga box for playing the dreamcast on a monitor or hdtv. but i don't see a video cable-sized cable in there, so i say it's not likely.
my least likely theory is that it's a data cable used to transfer data from the dc to the computer. this is used for homebrew and dumping games onto the computer.

A closer shot of that box would be nice, but that looks like a parallel cable to me. It would have nothing to do with switching video sources. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the Dreamcast at all, maybe it was boxed (or whatever) with that Dreamcast so the seller only thinks it goes with it.
Or maybe I'm wrong. The Dreamcast does have a serial port. But that box looks like it has only two parallel ports, although we can't see the other side.

Maybe its for a Nexus memory card, think it can be connected via serial port to the PC. There should be some experts confirming this in the next couple of posts.

Yeeeeeeah. I think that's just a printer sharing switch box. Was probably just thrown in the same box as the DC when the original owner moved.Pookie wrote:I asked for another photo, now I am sure they are completely unrelated
