The Recent Life & Times of Nick (aka Racketboy)

Post by racketboy »

I was really hesitant to share too much about what’s been going on with me because a) I didn’t figure many people would actually care and b) I’m not much for sharing gritty details about my personal life online.

However, it seems that a lot of what’s been going on in my personal life has caused the community to suffer significantly and many of you have been left in the dark and have be wondering what’s going on (Mozgus was among those and I’ve filled him in a bit since – I’ve also told a few of the other moderators as well)

Getting to the bottom line…

My wife moved out of our place a number of months ago and is planning on finalizing a divorce in the coming months. She's also planning on moving from Michigan to California early next year.

It's REALLY hard to explain the details and they aren’t especially relevant to those that don’t really know us personally. But here’s a summary…

We have been married 7 years, were each other’s best friends and still remain very good friends to this day.

It took me a rather long time to understand why she decided to call it quits (which left me emotionally drained and I didn’t have the ambition/motivation for other things), but I’ve been getting much closer to understanding (not that I think its worth ending a marriage over) in the last few weeks.

After she quit teaching a couple years ago, I helped her start her own online business and was very involved in it. It became very successful and I invested a lot of time, money, and energy to keep it growing. Unfortunately, this took a lot of focus away from racketboy, but it was with the intention of helping my wife start a new career that she enjoyed. Obviously, this all complicates the divorce process a year later, but that’s not your guys’ issue to worry about.

However, I must admit I'm actually looking forward to the day when everything is finalized and handed off as it's quite draining. A fresh start will probably be good for me in the long run even though I would still prefer to have things back the way they were not too long ago.

So anyway, I hope that explains why I've been more distant lately...
I'm not looking for sympathy or anything -- just thought I'd fill you in :)

I'll be sharing my plans for how to get the community back in shape soon -- hopefully addressing many of the concerns Mozgus had about the forum

Wow. I don't think you could've handled that situation in a more good, sincere way. I'm really sorry to hear about all that, I've seen a couple of my friends go through similar things. I hope things can get on the up for you soon, and that you can always look to this community for support.

Good to know that the situation didn't spiral out of control and that for the most part everything's alright.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing about the plan to revamp and clean up the forums!

Thanks -- it definitely didn't happen overnight.
Luckily I have a few good friends at work that I've talked to. One of whom is going through a split with her husband -- although our situations are different in a lot of ways, she's given me a lot of good perspective and is always there when I need to vent.

As weird as this sounds, I also stumbled upon a good divorce book for guys at the library in the new release section. It dealt a lot with common questions and the majority of the book deals with moving on and getting your life back in order. It helped a bunch -- glad I noticed it on the shelf :)

Sorry to hear about the situation with your wife. I can't imagine what it's like to have to go through a situation like yours or anyone else who is having marital trouble. Hope you can get through the pain/sadness quickly and come out in a better situation after it's all done. If there's any chance of reconcilation, hope that happens. Good luck.

I'm real sorry to hear this happened to you. One of my good friends is also going through a divorse right now, and just like you he's looking forward to the process being over. It sounds, though, like you've got a lot of support to help you through this.
