Street Fighter IV strategies

Post by J T »

After getting my ass handed to me repeatedly while playing SFIV online, I've decided to spend a little more time in practice. I'm trying to learn new strategies, since my tired old SFII techniques don't seem to hold much weight anymore. Here's a few useful videos I found:

Anybody else have any good strategies or videos?

Crouch and block against Cammy. It's foolproof.

^ That plus footsweep used to be all it took to beat Balrog. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I'm having a hard time learning this game because it feels like Street Fighter II, but the rules and timing are a bit different. I keep falling into old patterns that don't do me any good anymore.

Also Guile. Every Guile player is exactly the same. Two low sweeps, then a summer-salt. Repeat. Fucking idiots.

So did you get the game running at 60fps yet?

Yeah, if I turn character details to low and turn off all other effects, then I can keep my backgrounds on and still run at 60fps. If character details are medium, it still runs in the 50s. If backgrounds are off it runs real nice, even at higher character detail, but it looks ugly to always fight in a black and white grid. Also, my home internet connection is far superior to the coffee shop (big suprise! heheh).

I've beaten the game with Ryu on the Medium level, but that's just because he's familiar. I'm experimenting with them all and haven't really picked one as my main character yet.

I love SFIV, but the online play does a terrific job of making me enraged.

I'm no pro by any means, but I've fared (somewhat) well in arcades against great players, I've beaten the game on the hardest difficulty, and yet I'm downright awful in the online matches. My typical plays and combo moves just don't happen. There's something about the timing and lag that I just can't get down 100%. It's absolutely crazy-making.

I can relate. I typically dominate my friends in most fighters, but I lose 90% of my online matches. I don't understand it.
