I'm doing a little research on BC and thought I would toss out this Sega-related question to the forums.
I know the Mark III (the original Master System in Japan) can play older SG-1000 games as well as the game "cards" that were originally played on the SG-1000 with an adapter. I know that the Master System had a reader for these "cards" built into the deck. But since the SG-1000 wasn't released in North America, can a U.S. Master System play SG-1000 games, which would have all been Japanese carts??
What about the Power Base converter for the Genesis/Mega Drive? I know this also has a card reader, but can you play SG-1000 games on a Genesis using that device?

Re: Master System & SG-1000 backward compatiblity quesitons
You, you cannot use Japanese cartridges in a foreign system. The physical size of the cartridges is very different. There are (expensive and ugly) adapters available. To be honest, it would be cheaper to buy a Mark III online.
You are talking about carts and not cards, right? You're post isn't specific. As for Japanese SG-1000/Mark III/Master System "Sega My Cards", they would certainly fit in a US system. I would guess they'd work, but I'm not certain.

I was asking about either one, really. Mainly I was asking about carts, so thanks for answering that.
