Survival Horror on the Wii!?
Survival Horror on the Wii!?
As exciting as this is for survival horror fans like myself, anyone find it strange that all these horror games are coming out on the Wii? Now don't get me wrong I'm really excited for Cursed Mountain, Silent Hill, Ju-on "The Grudge" which is very cool, The Calling and a Dracula game (from the makers of the surprisingly good DS survival game Dementium the Ward). which is getting a sequel by the way. Hopefully some of these games will sell well enough to warrant Namco to bring Fragile and Nintendo to bring Fatal Frame 4 over here. And who knows, maybe we'll see that mysterious game Sadness someday. The more I think about it from a developers stand point, it makes sense to make these games for the Wii due to the unique controller. But from a business stand point, the Wii is known as a family machine and survival horror isn't very family oriented. Anyways its nice to see the Wii getting some great games for people like myself who love the survival horror genre. Just in time for the winter hibernation! Any other fans of horror games out there? There really is no emotion quite as strong as fear. And games that are able to envoke fear in a person tend to have a special place in my heart.

Yeah, we've been talking about this a little over at Chris' Survival Horror Quest. Last I heard, there were plans for a US release of Fragile, so look forward to that. Fatal Frame 4's still on the outs though.
But yeah, the Wii's actually turning into quite the horror console, which I'm happy about. Throw in the RE4 port and the backwards compatibility to some of the titles on GC, and there's some quality options on there.

what about the RE Remake port on wii? Doesnt that get some love
Re: Survival Horror on the Wii!?
I didn't mention it because I was mainly focusing on new games and not ports. I'm sure its just as good if not better as the Gamecube version. I already own the GC version so there better be some heavy ass extras that come with this version for me to buy it. Nice mention though as I didn't really know all that much about the rerelease.NintendoRobot wrote:what about the RE Remake port on wii? Doesnt that get some love

Dont expect anything, for a port it seriously did not change anything AT ALL, and theres absolutely no extra content, avoid unless ur looking to add it to ur collection or if u didnt play the gamecube versioncorn619 wrote:I didn't mention it because I was mainly focusing on new games and not ports. No. As a horror fan, I'm glad that the Wii is starting to cater to the horror nuts out there.corn619 wrote:As exciting as this is for survival horror fans like myself, anyone find it strange that all these horror games are coming out on the Wii?
I for one can't wait to see more of the Ju-On game.corn619 wrote:Now don't get me wrong I'm really excited for Cursed Mountain, Silent Hill, Ju-on "The Grudge" which is very cool, The Calling and a Dracula game (from the makers of the surprisingly good DS survival game Dementium the Ward). which is getting a sequel by the way.
Fatal Frame on Wii = big giant duh!corn619 wrote:Hopefully some of these games will sell well enough to warrant Namco to bring Fragile and Nintendo to bring Fatal Frame 4 over here. Small trivia... yours truly once considered the possibility of a special Fatal Frame controller shaped like an actual camera, where aiming is done by tilting the camera.

Such slander!
Everyone knows that adults and teens are part of the family, too. I mean, just because a family has a pool doesn't mean that it's just so little Billy and Susie can do cannonballs. It's also for Mom and Dad, both seeking a little late night skinny-dip.
If you make every game for the family in general, then what about individual family members? Billy and his friends want Super Smash Bros Brawl, but Susie and her friends want Cooking Mama, and their older brother Tommy wants something to cater to his trigger finger. But where's the games for Mom and Dad? And I mean the "games" "for" "Mom and Dad".
Totally. Shame that the only way I can get video games for Christmas is if they are under $20 and my parents have enough cash. But I've got a job and can buy my own games.corn619 wrote:Anyways its nice to see the Wii getting some great games for people like myself who love the survival horror genre. Sigh... to me, RE4 has about as much in common with the Survival Horror genre as Battle Phantasia has in common with the JRPG genre.Ack wrote:...Throw in the RE4 port ...
As far as I'm concerned, the best Survival Horror game on the Wii is Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube. However, there is a lot coming out that should satiate your hunger.
Re: Survival Horror on the Wii!?
True, but when you consider that it's the first in the main series to be brought over, and now they're interested in porting other games(like the remake of the first), it gives me hope that we'll be seeing the rest of the series, possibly as remakes.

Re: Survival Horror on the Wii!?
I don't know how good the games will be (and am keeping fairly low expectations for a bunch of them) but even if just a few hit as good horror titles then I'll be satisfied. Ju-on is the one I'm most looking forward to, although it's hard to say how much "game" this haunted house simulator actually provides. Silent Hill is also a great looking title, and I'm excited to try others as well.
I think it makes (business) sense to focus on Wii for titles like this though - you lower the risk of releasing a niche game by tapping the largest possible audience with the smallest development costs.
