Recently I gave into the urge and took a step up the ladder to ultimate geekdom - I bought a few comics. All marvel stuff at the minute, the 'collectors' reissues that we get in the UK, and I am kind of getting into it although I'm a bit overwhelmed by the choice of issues each month and I hate the way they run different stories in each issues - so you'll get the final 2 parts of one story and part 2 of some other story. Obviuosly this is to make you keep buying them but I want to try out different things AND have a full set of all parts of all stories..
So I was thinking about buying a full story in a book. I've been enjoying the Xmen comics, I like the moody art and the superhero stuff. I like the look of jap stuff like Bleach, but I'm not sure if I can cope with the right to left thing.
Any suggestions?
Can you recommend me some comics?

Re: Can you recommend me some comics?
I don't collect comics anymore, but got a few suggestions anyway. All of the Marshal Law stuff is worth reading, except for the ML/Hellraiser crossover. The start of the Excalibur series was excellent, especially when Davis and Neary were doing it. Somewhere around 75-80 it lost it and I stopped caring. But any trade paperbacks of the early stuff is pretty good.

Re: Can you recommend me some comics?
I'm not really into the superhero/marvel type ones. Most of the print stuff I collect is manga so the only long-running comic series I own are Calvin & Hobbes, Heathcliff, and Garfield. Some smaller ones I like are Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (the others by Jhonen Vasquez are awesome aswell), Sam & Max, and Aristocratic Xtraterrestrial Time-Traveling Thieves. I've heard good things about both Bone and Creed, so those are the ones I'll be looking into getting next.
'course all of those finished their print runs long ago, so they're all just back-issues. Cheap and relatively easy to find (except X-Thieves which I'm still missing 3 of)

* Johnny the Homicidal Maniac
* Grimm Fairy Tales (released by Zenescope, this series is essentially an R-rated take on fairy tales) (note: I actually currently only have the "Return to Wonderland" hardcover collection)
* Hack/Slash (I've got the Volume 1 Omnibus, which contains all the original one-shots and miniseries, but not the Volume 2 Omnibus which contains issues #1-17 of the ongoing series and the Hack/Slash Annual)
* Marvel Zombies
* Nightmare on Elm Street series from Avatar Comics and Wildstorm Comics (the former lasted only 5 issues before losing the comic book rights to all New Line Cinema horror properties to the DC imprint Wildstorm Comics) (the Wildstorm series ongoing series, which lasted for 8 issues; one story in New Line Cinema's Tales of Horror; and a Freddy vs Jason vs Ash 6-issue crossover collab w/ Dynamite, with a sequel series in the works, also 6-issues, called Freddy vs Jason vs Ash 2: Nightmare Warriors)
* The Crow
* V for Vendetta
* The Watchmen
* 300
* Sin City
* PvP (the series, published by Image, is actually culled from the webcomic)
* the new line of comics based on Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow (currently, they have two series, Ender's Game: Battle School and Ender's Shadow: Battle School, which both cover the first half of the respective books, with two upcoming sequels to each: Ender's Game: Commander School and Ender's Shadow: Commander School; roughly, that's about 20 issues, also collected in 4 trade paperbacks) (there's also gonna be a series centered around Ender's sister Valentine)
* Sonic the Hedgehog from Archie Comics (which AFAIK is the longest-running comic book based on a video game) (personally, I like the older stuff from the '90s) (since the series has created over 200 issues and countless spin-offs and miniseries, I'm just leaving you with the Wikipedia page)

I've never really been much for American comics, but I really have been loving Deadpool lately. (Not the Wolverine Origins monstrosity)
Re: Can you recommend me some comics?
Hellboy is far and away my favorite comic series, and I am not much of a comic book reader in the first place. Most of the series has been published in collected volumes which are worth picking up. (http://www.amazon.com/Mike-Mignola/e/B0 ... r_dp_pel_1)
I also enjoyed the first few years of the regular Spawn comics and would recommend them (although I got bored with them around issue 50).

Re: Can you recommend me some comics?
Nextwave was a short series that Marvel did a few years back that can be picked up in its entirety in two volumes. I absolutely adored it, and feel it's definitely worth looking into.
Re: Can you recommend me some comics?
All depends on what you like. THE INFINITY GAUNTLET is what got me into comics, I would highly recommend it.
Peter David's run on the Incredible Hulk is amazing, ask the comic clerk if he has some back issues.
