Lately I've been feeling the urge to get into some iPhone games, but I'm not exactly sure what to get. I don't want a game that is "good for the iPhone" but rather just a good game. This makes looking at reviews (that are few and far between compaired to xbox releases) kind of difficult as I don't really know where the reviewer is coming from.
I've never been a fan of metal gear, but the iPhone game looks fun.
Anyone playing anything? Suggestions?

I have the metal gear solid game for PSP. It is an ok metal gear solid game, but a pretty good iphone game. There isn't any sneaking you just shoot mercenaries, though it's still pretty fun. Except for the boss battle with Laughing octopus. I also have the demo of assassins creed and brothers in arms, they are pretty fun.

There is also some sort of free dungeon crawl with 8bit graphics that one of my buddies plays alot of but the name eludes me.

I would suggest Assasins Creed, Prey, Need for Speed Underground, Tetris, and Wolfenstein 3D. I guess Doom is coming out too soon.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Anyone playing iPhone games?
on my ipod touch i have
metal gear solid touch - just a gallery type shooter its still pretty fun
doom: ressurection - its a on rails shooter really challenging loads of fun but drains batteries like a mo'fo
katamari damacy - ok i love katamari but this game takes getting used too. because you TILT the ipod to roll the ball, so at first it may seem frustrating but after u get the hang of it its fun.
assassins creed - actually a good game the controll aint that bad
dont bother with any of the old school classics like pacman, galaga crap like that the controll is horrible. Mega Man 2 for iphone sucks too because of the control.

9 innings is the best baseball game on the iPod in my opinion
Siberian Strike is a good schmup
Blackjack Run is my favorite card game
and there is always Trivial Pursuit
Any chance there will ever be a Racketboy application in the app store

The only one i play with any regularity is Lux Dlx. it's basically Risk, but there are a ton of maps (like 50). They have everything from the standard Risk to recreations of most major battles/wars throughout history. You can even take over OZ. it's a bit pricey at $7, but it's totally worth it (assuming you like Risk of course)

Re: Anyone playing iPhone games?
Hi there,
Believe it or not, I'm pretty big into iPod Touch gaming. Last year I had an hour long train commute both in the mornings and the evenings (so two hours travel time in total). I ended up playing a lot of games on my iPod Touch, as you can imagine.
I can honestly say that Vay is the best RPG on the iPhone/iPod Touch at this point in time.
I've wasted money on buying all of them after hesitantly trying Vay (I had never played it before on Sega CD). I was hesitant because I was aware it was a remake and compared to a lot of the games on the system, the graphics weren't stand out. However, it plays like you'd expect a classic, turn-based RPG to play and the graphics actually are better than they look in the screenshots. I found myself really enjoying the game and was hooked until I completed it. Thankfully it wasn't over too quickly. The cut scenes are in tact including the voice overs. The story is deep and the battle system is nice. I especially liked the auto feature as I'm not much of a turn-based guy, myself.
The only annoyance with Vay is the overworld map control method. On overworld maps, you have to tap where you want to go and sometimes it's a little awkward. Honestly, though, it doesn't ever become as annoying as a lot of other apps with bad controls because there are no split-second reflex moves you're going to pull in Vay. The strategy comes from the battles which are menu based and thus perfectly suited to the iDevices.
If you want an action RPG, the best that's out there now is Zenonia but, like the other RPG's out now, it suffers from shoddy translation (I think it's unacceptable how many poor translations are marketed, but that's a rant for another day). Otherwise it's a solid game and far more interesting and engaging than the other RPG's that are out there. I ended up deleting both Dungeon & Hero and Chronicles of Inotia: Legend of Feanor after purchasing them for nearly twenty bucks total. I don't spend recklessly in the App Store, but I did with both of those titles banking on the fact that it would be at least close to the quality of Vay. Sadly I was wrong so I will not be so hasty to do this in the future and will also examine my state of mind before I buy. No more, "MUST HAVE RPG!" buys for me.
Anyway, Hero of Sparta, Centipede, Dig Dug Remix, Rolando, JellyCar and Knights Onrush are all titles I would recommend that are good for being good games--not just good on the iPod Touch. You might also check out the Crystal Defenders series. I like it, but I think it's a personal taste sort of thing and others may not share my opinion. Lastly, I didn't get this sense from you, but I'm also fairly into puzzle and racing games and do enjoy a lot of them. If you're interested, I'll share some titles there, too.
Peace and happy gaming,
manaman

Holy crap I totally forgot about Jelly Car, that game is bitchin! I love the music (it is quirky so don't expect it to be rock and roll or anything). I used to hum it all the time and drive my wife nuts. I also like Sketch and I think they have a new game out by that company that is kind of similar... iDork it is called... maybe.
