The TG-16 doesn't seem to get much press around here, but anyone can enjoy bad box art. Here's a recent feature I did comparing PC-Engine game boxes to their U.S. counterparts:

The wonderful console known as the TG-16 failed to make a dent in the U.S. market for numerous reasons, and--as hopefully this feature demonstrates--bad box art/marketing was one of them.

well..... omg they suck.
but still 1 or 2 of them imo are better in the western version. not that it's a good piece of boxart. just that the japanese is so bad to begin with, you can't go wrong

Nice article, I actually had no idea TG16 box art suffered so badly from westernization. Of course, at the time I had no idea the TG16 existed regardless.

I kinda liked US Galaga's cover better.

I believe this is one of the reasons there are so few TG covers on TCP.

My favorite bad TG-16 artwork

What is up with all these wimpy looking guy's on these TG-16 covers. These guy's here look like they would be good friends with the the dudes from the Dragon's Curse and Neutopia II covers lol.

Good one, nice to see more TG16 material. Wasn't there a thread on here about how the same thing happened to a few PS2 releases?

Earlier US covers are like the person who was doing the US SMS covers was fired, bought an airbrush, spent 5 minutes learning how to use it, and conned NEC into hiring them.
