DC backups.

Post by Frag Mortuus »

Hey Guys,

I was just wondering. Do DC backups play just as good as real copies? I am getting a DC soon and am planning on getting a vga cable. So with me investing the money into both products I want to get the best experience (game play wise, not collection wise) as I can.

I plan on using backups to play the games I missed. Games that I know I like from when I got the DC when it first came out I plan on buying. Like Crazy Taxi, Record of Lodoss War, Grandia II, Sonic Adventure etc... However, I dont know if I would like games like Cannon Spike and Project Justice which are both quite expensive.

Anyway will I be short changing myself by playing backups, also will I be damaging my DC by playing backups?

Thanks Guys.

Reading a CDR is harder on the system than reading a real disc, but if you burn them nice and slow at say 4X it won't be a huge deal. That said, some (most?) games will have had any movies and things downsampled so they fit on the smaller size of a CD so they won't look as nice. But the actual game graphics and such should generally be the same.

Just make sure you get a 0 or 1 revision DC as all but a few revision 2 will not read CDRs stock.

Yeah, it's very rare that a Dreamcast won't be able to read a backup no matter what the condition. There are only two games that my Dreamcast just won't read at all: Frame Gride and Counter Strike. So you should have no problems if you find the right kind of DC.
