So the other day I went to play some Saturn and the clock was resetting every time the system was powered on. I don't have a CR2032 to swap so I checked the saves on my 4 in 1 to assess the damage. To my surprise the saves were still present in the Saturn's memory. So I powered the system down, popped out the 4 in 1 (I had one die on me once and it did weird things with the internal memory and clock) and tested. The clock still reset every time the system was turned on. So I removed the battery and reinserted (after backing up my saves, of course). Still resetting. Replaced the 4 in 1, still resetting.
Any ideas? I have a feeling something linking the battery to the internal clock has died... but I hope it isn't a sign that everything else is about to go.

I would try another battery just to be safe.... it could be possible that it is very low and about to die on you. Good job with the 4 in 1 btw, that is one of the best thins a Saturn owner can have!

That's a good idea. I didn't think about that. I'll give it a shot.

hope it all works out! If not, try what you were thinking before with the connections inside. Maybe just a good battery connection cleaning and a refresher battery? I'd try both.

I'm not sure about the clock resetting but there are 2 essential things a true Saturn player needs.
1. Action Replay 4 in 1 for Imports
2. Sega BackUp cart for saves.
I sure do love the Sega memory card.

Copy your saves back over to your Action Replay and remove your save battery, after removing it press the small button located besides it, then place the battery back inside and press the button again. This resets the Saturn's memory and save RAM completely and should resolve the clock issue.

I had always wondered what the button was for, so I pushed it one day to find out, needless to say all of the saves on my spare Saturn were wiped. At least I learned the function though.

Re: Saturn's clock keeps resetting (CR2032 is alive and kicking)
Replacing the battery resolved the issue completely. I guess it takes more power to run the clock than it does to hold saved data.
Another trick for replacing the Saturn's CR2032:
If you don't have a backup cart or 4 in 1 to move your saves to, everyone knows removing the battery will delete your saves.
BUT, you can replace the battery while the system is powered on. Simply power up the Saturn, go to the CD audio menu, carefully turn your Saturn around and remove the CR2032. Replace it with a fresh battery and rest easy knowing your saves will still be contained in the system memory!
(keep in mind I have only tested this method on model 2 Saturns)
