VGA to HDMI HDTV

Post by h8b1llg8ts »

Like everyone here I've been trying to convert my Dreamcast to HDTV as cheaply as possible. And I think I may have found a new way.

Can I purchase the VGA box and use this guy for my HDTV?

Just say this in VGA Dreamcast support and forgot about that thread, sorry Mod's. But I saw this quote and didn't know if it applies to me?

I have a 42" Plasma Panasonic which only accepts HDMI, RCA video, S-video and component... but no VGA!

I cried, I panicked, I regretted my purchase and then discovered the monoprice converter box. It works great! $40 and my tears are gone!

EDIT: the key is to use a converter box that runs on external power. A straight up VGA to HDMI cable will not work.

Good luck ordering that from GET IT FAST, Hong Kong.

It seems way too good to be true and just FYI IF it works there is no conversion or scaling going on there.... it's just a pass through cable.

Considering what that cable is, the picture would look as good(probably a little worse) than VGA. So unless you are playing this on a tv or monitor with no vga port I couldn't see a reason to purchase.

That said...if you buy it please let us know how it works out.

VGA is Analog.

HDMI is Digital.

I wouldn't buy that cable unless you could get your Dreamcast to somehow output a digital VGA signal or else your TV either won't how any image or may be damaged by it.

All in all, to add-on to this topic, I would say many hdtv's have a vga input,so your best bt is to get the vga box and just connect directly. Nothing better for the Dreamcast :-)

Answers more than you question... but you inspired me to make a comprehensive post since I get echolalia induced headaches.

It is a bit long, but it answers hundreds of questions. Read it once and you have fewer.
