It seems to me that there has been a resurgence in recent years for the old point and click graphic adventure games. I used to love all the old Sierra and LucasArts games back in the 80s/90s, so it's fun to see them making a bit of a comeback.
Sierra has released packs with most all of the King's Quest, Space Quest, and Police Quest games.
Lucas Arts has re-released a lot of their old classics like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, plus they had the great remake of Secret of Monkey Island.
With SCUMMvm, you can play a lot of your old classic graphic adventure games on modern machines (plus download some freebies): http://www.scummvm.org/
Telltale Games seems to be leading the way with their episodic series of Sam & Max, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, and the new Tales of Monkey Island.
It's kind of cool to see this once thought to be dead genre come back to life. What point & click adventure games have you been playing lately?
Right now, I'm enjoying the free indie game Ben There, Dan That. It's one of the funniest games I've ever played and it's worth your time just for the comic writing. You can download it for free here: http://www.zombie-cow.com/?page_id=17
You can also buy the sequel there for $5 or you can go to Steam and buy the two bundled for $5.

Ive been playing Broken Sword Directors cut on the Wii. Fate of Atlantis and the new Monkey Islands are next on the list (thought thatll be after September - damn money sink cons). The Wii, despite what others may think, is simply a godsend for these games.

Don't forget about Cing and the DS titles, like Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk, they've produced.

i'm playing through "i have no mouth and i must scream." i'm actually curious--does anybody else like that one?
Re: Point & Click Graphic Adventure Revival
I played every Sierra adventure game that I know of back in the day. Most of the LucasArts ones too. Still need to get to Sam and Max though. I really like Legend's illustrated text adventure style. Been playing through Gateway, I really liked Eric the Unready and Spellcasting 101. And I just finished Broken Sword last weekend, it was enjoyable but the ending was a little anticlimactic I think.
I think some publisher needs to drop a load of cash at Al Lowe's feet and let him do whatever he wants.

Hey,
I'm pretty certain people aren't going to like me for saying this, but I've found the iPod Touch/iPhone to be an excellent platform for this genre and some quality games have been coming out recently.
I also think the DS and Wii are natural choices for this genre because of the stylus input and Wii Remote--which I prefer over even a mouse. Still, there's something that just feels right when you can simply tap on the screen like with the iPod Touch and DS.
Anyway, I'm glad to see this resurgence, but get back to me when they make a Discworld update or a new entry.
Peace,
manaman

Rumours of the death of AG's had been greatly exaggerated. Some of the great adventure titles I played over the past few years:
Still Life
Syberia II
Scratches
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Overclocked: A History of Violence
The Immortals of Terra: A Perry Rhodan Adventure
3 Cards to Midnight
Secret Files: Tunguska

I do, but the game certainly doesn't make it easy on me.dedalusdedalus wrote:i'm playing through "i have no mouth and i must scream." i'm actually curious--does anybody else like that one?
