Sega SG-1000 / SC-3000H

Post by emwearz »

Recently at school I found an old SC-3000H, boxed with a bunch of tapes and one cart (BASIC programming), with the power adapter and RF cable. There is no joystick (It has a keyboard built in), no tape reader, but from my understanding is it can take the old SG-1000 games. I really wouldnt want to spend any money on it, as I doubt I would enjoy using it.

My two questions is
a) Do you think its worth taking (It is free, but I feel at the moment it will just take up more room than its worth as getting games for it will be next to impossible)
b) How sought after are they? Is it worth picking up to do some trading purposes?

Take that thing. It sounds tight. I bet the games for that thing are super hard to find though.

They were a lot more popular in the antipodes than other western territories - keep an eye on Ebay Australia and TradeMe (New Zealand's Ebay equivalent), and you'll see them show up. I'm guessing there was no kind of region lock.

That said, from my brief experience of emulating SG1000 stuff, the games suck rather heavily.

It's mine locked in the store room, Its apparently been there since the late 80's so I doubt it will be gone by tomorrow. From my understanding it is pretty much a Sega Mark I with a keyboard. You can get a adapter that lets you play My card games as well, but the price on its games / apps is pretty high. I will grab it tomorrow.

Anyone got any worthwhile info for me, looked about a little but its all pretty vague.

For now I will just store it in the shed and decide what to do when I move house in October.

They go for 150 euros(approx. $170) in Europe if boxed

There are a couple of games that would be really great to have for collection and historical purposes. They are also pretty fun actually. Zaxxon, Girl's Garden, Flicky, Paccar. . . they are all pretty interesting games given that they came out around the same time as the Colecovision. I would suggest you get an emulator to test out the games though. They are kind of pricey for old games >$20.

Oh yeah, I forgot about "Ninja Girl". If you played "The Ninja" on the SMS than you would appreciate this. And Space Invaders. That looks like a good port. Exerion also looks like a good space shooter.

SG-1000 games in Tokyo usually run between $1-$20. To be honest though, they're nothing special at all in my opinion. Mind you, I only have a couple of games... but one of them is Flicky, which is apparently about the best of the bunch. It is a fun little game, but not really worth more than $10 and only really for collecting purposes. I think I paid about $5 for it.

Still, if collecting old consoles/computers is what you're doing, DEFINITELY get it! I have an SG-1000, and it's awesome just to have it. It's totally pointless, as the Mark III and Master System run its games, but I don't think anyone with a collection of old systems is really worried about that sort of thing.
