Recently beat Yakuza 2, and really enjoyed the way they ended the storyline. Love the two titles, but I don't want another Yakuza game, at least not from the same production team.
It got me thinking about other memorable game endings. I'd like to know the endings that really got to you, emotionally, or just gave you a real sense of accomplishment that had an ending that was worth it.
Seeing as I started this thread, I'll start:
Metroid: This is the first game with alternate endings that I can remember. I'm sure it isn't the first, especially with games like police quest preceding it, but it is the first "action" game that I remember that had alternate endings. The ending may not have been the best, but the last stretch of Metroid is still being duplicated to this day.
Bionic Commando: Stole Metroid's last level formula, but what an ending. Hitler's face exploding, having to have a precise shot on a helicopter, a bomb exploding, seeing an island explode, and saving super joe. Good stuff.
